Does anyone keep some sort of a "Coaster Log"?

If I get a Didgital Camera over the winter like im planning on getting, I will start a Photobook of everyride I ride at every different park.

Hey, GregLeg, I keep a similiar lap count of all the coasters I`ve riden.  I started in 2000 and have it in a microsoft works spreadsheet file. I`ve been on the Beast 79 times since the start of 2000 and have taken 539 rides on roller coasters!

I keep separate listings of wood and steel coasters on Excell. I just list them in my favorite order from #1 on down. I've found that after about #25 or #30 or a bit lower that it doesn't much matter where a particular coaster ends up on either list, although I carry the listings down to the very end, and have done a pretty good job of taking care of it for my own enjoyment.

Funny thing, though, is that amongst the steel coasters, I have ranked many of them by what type of coaster they are. For example, there are several production models (like the original Arrow Boomerangs) that I just clump together, allowing for external influences such as theming and ride quality. Another example is the Arrow suspended coaster. Though not identical, they are still Arrow's, so I just clumped them together and ranked them within that group. The same goes for some of the Vekoma rides and the B&M Batman's, as well as the US versions of Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mtn RR. There are other examples, but I think I've made my point. By doing this, I can rank several groups of coasters instead of individual coasters. This simply reflects a certain sameness we see in the steel coaster market for certain types of rides. It's just a lot easier to do than rating each steelie individually to the extreme. We're only talking about roller coasters, after all.

I need to say that many steel coasters don't fit into a group-type, so I have to rate them individually. These tend to be the better coasters, in my estimation.

It's all rather arbitrary because of every 1000 riders, we'll see probably 1000 different versions of a list.

As far as woodies, well, except for the Cyclone clones and the two Roars, they're all quite unique from each other. So far, I have 53 woodies and around 130+ steelies on my separate lists.

I think the whole point is that we all just do this for fun.

I just write down the name of the coaster, my rating on a scale of 1-5, and the number of laps. But here's the catch. I also do this for thrill rides, water rides, and flat rides. All my ride counts are exact starting from 1998. It isn't that hard since I rarely get more than five rides on a particular ride.
