Do you think they should bring back the bat @ PKI?

I think they should. how about you? Maybe at a diffrernt park.
not at kings island. kings island should keep the line of record breaking coasters. whenever they build one.. that is
So why did the ride close anyway, I don't know why it closed.

SFGAm Trip - July 13-17, 2001
It closed because the track wasn't banked at all. This took it's toll on both the support and the trains. There were numerous other technical problems as well.

I would love for them to bring it back as a flying coaster or B&M invert.

I would love for them to bring it back as what it was... an Arrow suspended masterpiece. Tampering with it would be like taking a piss on George Washington's grave (to Americans, anyways...).
I would love it if they did. Unfortuneately, it was torn down a year before i was even born, so that sux. The only improvements that would probabily be done with it is bank the track and put the braking fins at the top of the track. Anything else would ruin the ride, at least thats what i have heard

How does the Vortex compare? Anybody here been on both?

Yeeee Haaawwww!
Well, I haven't been on the Bat, it is pretty hard to compare Vortex to The Bat. I would suggest comparing Top Gun to The Bat though.
The Bat was plagued with techinical problems, including, brake fins on the bottom of the train. This put enormous strain on the track. Unbanked curves, which wore down the suspension arms, and downtime, caused PKI to close it down. I would love to see the Bat come back, but unfortunately, it won't be coming back to PKI. I wish Arrow would make new suspendeds, but I don't see parks buying nthem in the future.

The Bat was not a masterpiece. It was a piece of garbage and an embarassment to PKI and Arrow. If it was a masterpiece it would still be there. George Washington built something that would last, Arrow didn't.

It was a masterpiece in that it was a tremendous thrill for anyone who got to ride it. Supposedly the cars got at or above horizontal on some of the turns.

Unfortunately, in a situation like that where the ride is costing the park so much $$ just to keep up, it's not cost effective, so the park cuts it's losses and removes the attraction.
THe design was a masterpiece. Unfortunately, Arrow had not thought it out well, so it had some mechanical issues. Does a few mechanical issues ruin it? No.

Given the layout of the ride, the existing Arrow suspended coasters all have similar elements in various orders. While never getting to ride when it was opened, I can't imagine it would have been any different from the others.

Ooops! Did I say "Vortex"? I meant "Top Gun". :)

How's this for a suggestion.... Kennywood did the whole "Phantom's Revenge" bit, so why not......

"The Revenge of The Bat"
The first B&M Hyper-Inverted
Make it about a 225ft drop, also give it some unique inversions, like the first inverted with a dive loop, interlocking loops, and hey! let's even throw in a cutback ala DrachenFire!!!

There was a rumor out last year about PKI bringing back The Bat (in title only) as a Vekoma FD. It was said to be scheduled for Rivertown, and it's queue was to share the WWC exit.

Can't say I could think of a better place for it. Flying through the trees over top of White Water Canyon. Sounds like a great idea to me.

I hope they don't bring the Bat back, because it might not live up to my fond memories. The Bat was quite different from the more recent suspended coasters, relying on many turns very close to the ground for it's thrills. Vortex at PCW is my favorite of the current bunch, but I find it difficult to compare to the Bat because they are very different and it was almost 20 years between my rides on each. While the Bat had many mechanical and structural problems, it was a good ride and was popular while it lasted. *** This post was edited by Jim Fisher on 7/13/2001. ***
i never got to ride ti but would u say it was near as good the Big Bad Wolf.
Ahh! A B&M suspended! 4-Across, but can swing, just like the Bat...B&M better get busy making these rides!
Bring back a ride that didn't work the first time? That's not very intelligent. For all we know, The Bat could have been recycled.
