Do you think drops will ever be 400+?

Homey G, physics has nothing to do with that. A 4500 foot drop could be designed with less G force than MF or any other existing coaster. Granted you had FAA approval, the only limits to coaster size are money and , well, oxygen! Hell, at Coastermania, Ron Toomer said the only limit is money.

Do I think we'll ever see a 4500 ft. coaster? Probably not, but it's possible.

ist there land clearing at sfgadv? maybe its going there, like the station on one side of the lake and the lift hill will cross it
Right, but physics DO tie in when you're dealing with money. If you'll notice, I mentioned being able to afford the lift hill. To keep physics problems out of the equation, you'd have to seriously spread out the drop over a looong stretch of land just to keep the forces under control. I'll give you physics don't HAVE to, but lets be honest here. You probably going to want to have other hills involved too lest you garner to "one trick pony" label. It won't happen, peabody, and you know it. You're one of the few around here that have ridden SD2K and you MUST realize that you can only go so much farther in the sky before heighth becomes a moot point.

Sorrrrrrrry folks! Parks closed. The moose out front should have told you.

SFGAdv is not getting one. Their last coaster was a hyper!!

But, a while back I would have never thought a coaster could go 0-107 in under 2 seconds, or let you flip like a 4-D. However, I fail to think of a way anyone could cough up the dough and land to make a really big coaster a reality.

The land clearing across the lake is not for a new attraction. It is to fix & rebuild some kind of old dam. The lake "re-damming" has been a work in progress since late last summer, when they had that drought, and construction has just become visible now. The dam is to control the water level for the lake in which the ski show takes place. Kind of like flood control. Trust me, we won't see a new attraction over there OR by the Log Flume, that's yet another environmental land clearing at the park, there are several....
HELL YEA THERE WILL BE A 400+ FOOT DROP

Never argue with a fool for he may be doing the same

Yes. Eventualy. My guess is within the next 3-5 years.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery, and today is a gift and that's why it is called the present.

I think we might see 400+ or even 500+ very quickly. You have to take into account theming here. It is not a secret in the architecture industry the skyscrapers could be 3+ what they are today. They have designs for 2000' skyscrapers with a reasonable cost. Densly populated countries are desprately looking for ideas to help consolidate their population to make room. The only reason we havn't seen anything this tall is because of logistics. If you build will people work and live in the upper floors? The answers so far are very contradicting. To make my story short. The technology is there. 400' is nothing. The only factors here are revenue, insurance, and land. After the following for MF do you think any park with approval, money, and insurance would not want a "tera" coaster?

Very unbeleiveable rumer (I havn't heard anything about it in a long time) but the CN tower (1200'+) in Canada has been eyed for a coaster.

Guess who i saw at PKI for a moment........

Werner Stengel!!!!! ahaha wonder what went down there

400', yes; 500', yes; 600', yes; 700', yes... There's no doubt in my mind that coasters will eventually reach the 1000-foot mark. With a design like the proposed Stratosphere coaster, the limits are almost endless.

It is possible to do it now, even a year ago, the only problem is getting it passed through local law.

Bob Stupeck the owner of the Stratosphere in LV has proposed a coaster at over 500ft. so there will definitely be a coaster over 400ft. B&MRULES!!!!!!!!

Alredy been nixed, local law

Why would it go to Cedar Point or SFMM? They both have tall hyper/giga coasters. I don't see them getting another tall coaster that would be a bit taller.

If its a launch full circuit it would be totally different. Cedar Point might want to build a 400 ft coaster because they built the world's first hyper and giga coasters.

Blah blah about 400, who gives a hoot. I dont really care, if they build it GREAT, if not are you going to be upset?? NO! because there are plenty of world class coasters to go around.

Olov,

Do you have a link to an article or anything that says this? I'd like to see a little proof.....not that I'm doubting you though.

No, Olov is correct. It seems as if the Heide Park coaster will be dowsized as the park is pending approval once again sometime down the near future. Werner Stengel did claim that a 400' circuitous Intamin AG coaster is coming to the United States.

It was not Stengel directly, but someone from his design team and his words in fine reading said giga, now drop that subject.

Yes, we will see 400 feet in a few years.

Its not THE Shivering Timbers, its just Shivering Timbers. And its pronounced Michigan's Adventure.

I read somewhere in a magazine or heard on the TV that coasters could be built down the side of skyscrapers! Imagina a coaster at 90 degrees down the side of Sears Tower! That pretty big.
