Do you love IB as much as I do?

I just got back from my first trip to Indiana Beach. I found the park all together to be very pleasing. Cornball express...what can I say? This ride is amazing and the best woodie in Indiana IMO. The park shares the same atmosphere as Holiday World with a little bit more to do.

I visited IB for the first time in 2001 after seeing the flyers for years at rest stops ect. I did the morning session alone and while I enjoyed the park it was different to me.

FF to 2002 and Media day, You couldn't have asked for worse weather, Temps in the 40's and drizzle off and on all day. The park however delivered in mass doses from the GREAT CORNBALL (Operated by IBDave :) ) to the Yo-Yo, Bumper cars, Double Shot and everything else. Armed with friends this park is a total complete blast to visit IMHO.

Ever do Frankenstiens Castle with friends? That door room is worth the price of addmission alone! Let the rookie go first for the end effect :)

We returned on our vacation in June to have a great time despite being totally whipped from over 40+ Boss rides the night before.

Chuck, IB Lover, Nungester who will probably visit next week to ride the elusive LoCoSuMo :)

"Tell me what you love about IB"

Honest answer, not a damn thing.

Of course, I've never been to the park (and dont see myself going soon). Growing up in Chi and hearing those silly commercials ("There's more than corn in Indiana...") even then I didnt think it was worth the effort. It amazes me that so many "enthusiasts" are enamored with the place. As picky as y'all are, you seem to be taken with what I would consider "piddly-schitt". I have a theory about this...but I've save it for another time.
later days,

2Hostyl1 - That's what I used to think. Now I'm just trying to make up for lost time.

You really can't form an hosest opinion about IB without going there. Maybe you wouldn't like it, maybe you would.

If I'm onto your theory about our love for IB, you're wrong (this ain't no Hoiday World).

Darn, should have copyrighted the Blackpool reference. Moosh, that will be $0.25, make payment in cash to the man in the trench-coat at the bottom of the Cornball stairway.

Jeremy, beware the Children of the Corn. :)

chris: that's only a part of it. The other (and perhaps more revealing part) deals with crowds and cliques.

And I *can* have an honest opinion about a park (or even a ride) without experiencing it. Of course, I would not be offended if you chose to disregard that opinion. It's only really for me anyway.

I was thinking about crowds, but not necessarily cliques. Hmm....

Opinions - I guess that's more dependent on how how one defines the "validity" of an opinion. I can have the assumption that I may not enjoy eating alligator meat, but I wouldn't agree that said assumption is a valid opinion until I've tasted alligator meat. I try to form my opinions from experience.

Anyway, you should go, Cornball's your style of ride. At least I'll assume that to be true, based on the previous opinions you've expressed here.

Now I will go cry myself to sleep because someone I do not know does not like my favorite park.

I am completely confused, befuddled and amazed that some people think that IB is better than or on par with Holiday World. I found it to feel like a overgrown carnival - to some extent. I don't mean to say I didn't like the park, in fact I did like it, but to say it's a great park (which I feel HW is) would be quite a stretch, IMHO.

Now, that being said CE and HH are great, fun coasters and the Frankenstein walk-through was fun (I'd love to go through there six (or so) years down the road with my soon-to-be-born child. But to balance the scales I had issues with the guns in Den of Lost Theives (I held the gun just inches from a target and I couldn't get the shot to register), cleanliness and ride op inattention (I tried a few time with one attendant to ask a question but she was busy having a non-work conversation and when I finally got her to acknowledge my presence, she was curt and surly.)

Now, as I stated earlier in this thread, these are not snap judgements as I have waited a couple of days to let the "emotion of the moment" subside.

The main question is this...will I return? Yes. Will it be anytime soon? Probably not - maybe my opinion would be improved if I didn't have to drive 2.5-3 hours each way in one day so I will have to plan a camping trip there.

HW and IB offer two distinct experiences, both top-notch in my opinion. Of the two, IB offers more rides, especially flats, and HW has the better waterpark and water rides - with the exception of the bumper boats. Sorry Paula, but IB has you beat in that respect.

It is my opinion that IB's flats are better run than HW, but that's coming from an "intensity" perspective [IB's are run at '11'] versus the actual quality of ride presentation, maintenance, and 'fun' factor - of which both parks excell. HW, being a family-oriented park, naturally runs most [not all] of their flats at a more family-friendly speed, but that's not saying they aren't fun, they are. Of course the flyers *could* be a little faster and the Tilt-o-Whirl could be manually operated instead of computer-driven [Will...are you listening?] but those are minor quibble points.

It is my opinion that HW offers the better wood combo [I say that w/o the benefit of riding LoCoSuMo]. I currently have Raven ranked #2, Cornball #2, and Legend #2, but it might as well be a 3-way tie for #1. Your mileage may vary.

Both parks offer excellent customer service, staff, and ride ops and are clean. The only other advantage I feel IB has over HW is their Fascination parlor. A rare game to find these days, anyone who's played can tell you its fun and addictive. The women who run the game are a real treat, too...the whole Fascination experience is truly a slice of America's traditional park history.

As for what Jeremy is saying...there's no reason for any of us to get our panties in a twist. He has the right to think whatever he wants about any park or coaster, even if we feel he might be "judging a book by its cover." Its still his right to do so, and its also his right to change said opinion at any time if the situation merits.

Anyway I'm off to Mexico City...everyone behave while I'm gone!

redman - Some of the things you stated are some of the reasons I love the place so. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

HW and IB are both great parks, and HW does have the edge with Raven and Legend being the best woodie combo in the world, but IB seems just to do more for me. I can spend 3 days at IB and still want to stay, but HW really only kept me satisfied for 5 hours, then I felt it was time to leave. Don't get me wrong, HW has one of the best waterparks in the U.S. and 2 amazing woodies, but after that there's not much more. I will visit HW again in the future, but I'll wait for them to expand a bit, I'm in no hurry.
