Do parks clean !!

^LOL! Jeffrey.

TopGun,

I agree, WV has it's share of litter on the highways, but it at least gives the prisoners something productive to do when they help clean it up. It's worse in some places than others, but I HAVE seen people pulled over for littering.

This picture speaks for itself. :)

i'm not sure what to put here..

People are simply amazing. Earlier this summer at SFGAm I saw a couple people, one of whom was using the top of a trash container as a table to hold his food tray and drink, throw trash on the ground at the base of the trash can. I figured maybe it was an accident.

While I was still standing there waiting for the kids to get off the baloon ride they just dropped the drink on the ground along with a couple fry containers and walked off. How lazy can you get?

If you throw trash on the ground at Holiday World, Mrs. Kock will personally smack you in the rear with her broom.

There are a lot of people who just don't give a s*** and will throw whatever, wherever and assume that it is someones job to clean up after them all day. But I think that the vast majority of people will do there part to keep a park clean if the park is doing their part. When I go to a park like HW or Dollywood that takes pride in the appearance of the park, I go out of my way to make sure that my trash is properly disposed of, and have even been known to pick other people's trash up to help keep the part clean. However, when I am at a park that it covered in liter and every trash can you find, when you can find one, is full, I will probably throw my trash on the ground as well.

Life is an amusment park -and I can't get off of the damn spinning teacups!

LOL @ Gonch's pic referenced by Corkscrewy.

Sadly, the irony is that I saw a SFA employee "run the gauntlet" of trash cans by Typhoon SeaCoaster and leave HER cup on the ground RIGHT next to a trash can. Granted, she was *busy* on her cell phone, but does it really take THAT much effort.

Customers take their cues (not queues, this time) from employees, and when people see the employees picking up trash, the *tendency* is to KEEP it cleaner in the first place...

Nice landscaping helps a LOT in that effort as well, people are more inclined to *litter* when the place already resembles a litterbox...or so my cats tell me... ;)

Kraven, I'm with you - I have a tendency of picking up "big" trash items and putting them in a trash can(soda bottles, cups, plates, etc.) and friends I'm with are always yelling at me telling me I shouldn't b/c I don't work for the park. I just shrug and say that it makes the park look nicer.

...interestingly, though, I've never had that compulsion to pick up trash @ either Six Flags park I've been to...

I think that MF has to cost more then $2000 a day to run. If you think about it, lets say you have 6 people there for 12 hours thats a little over 400 in just employees at $6 an hour, not to mention maintenance personal and all the electricity this ride must require. I think that $2000 for a 12 hour day is a little bit low.

I quoted for 1 positions from 8 am till 11 PM, 3 breakers from 11:30 am till 8 PM. This is an overestimate since employees don't get paid for all of their breaks. $7 per hour per person consitering TL and ATL make more money and many people don't get paid their bonus. $1300

Electricity is calculated for a near capacity day with the elevator system running at 60% efficiency overall. This compensates for losses in wiring, drive system, motor, gears, friction , station drive tires, and night lighting. This equates to just $0.42 per run. The ride starts running at 9am and ends at 10:30pm. It gets 609 runs in (more than usual) $240

Maintenance is approximated by 1 maintenance person being at the ride 24 hours and being paid $15. This is actually an overestimate since there usually isn't anyone at the ride. Sometimes when the ride breaks down, 5-10 maintenance men show up. They split up tasks from every ride in the park. $360

This ended up being around $1900 total. The extra $100 is compensation for any non major parts the ride needs during the summer. Averaged out, there are 145 like days above. That totals to $275,500 op costs and leaves $14,500 total extra.

I didn't compensate for off season maintenance because I have no clue how much that costs. Lift cables cost around $30,000 each. All of the parts the get replaced on interval or when they wear out cost a lot. My guess is that I am short by around $50k - $100k for all other costs involved with the ride outside of the $300 for costs while the park is open.

My estimate grand total is $350k-$400k per year.
