Disney's Reedy Creek tells bondholders that dissolution of district is illegal

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

In a statement issued to its bondholders last Thursday, Reedy Creek pointed out that the 1967 law also includes a pledge from Florida to its bondholders. The law states that Florida "will not in any way impair the rights or remedies of the holders... until all such bonds together with interest thereon, and all costs and expenses in connection with any act or proceeding by or on behalf of such holders, are fully met and discharged." Due to that pledge, Reedy Creek said it expects to continue business as usual.

That is fantastic, they're writers on the show. But what is not fantastic is that they're based on real life people.

Some Miami lawyer filed a lawsuit on behalf of some Orange and Osceola residents in federal court challenging the law, but understandably, the judge dismissed the case because the plaintiffs had no standing, and the federal court doesn't have jurisdiction. I'm not going to link to the news story because it reads like validation for the law, which isn't what the judge said at all.

Reedy Creek will be business as usual long after DeSantis is relegated to his destined role as podcaster/Fox News panelist.

I wish I shared your optimism. I mean, we elected a reality TV star and fraud to be president.

...and will very likely do so again in 2024....

Sure, but what's the worst that could happen? I have it on good authority that all politicians and "both sides" are the same, and any suggestion otherwise is silly histrionics.

Every time I feel like we have come so far as a country as far as equality goes, I am reminded by the Republican party that we still have a very long way to go.

Disney was asked by their GLBTQ employees not to support the so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill. Disney listened, and the Republicans retaliated against the company in their own way, politically. They admit that this is retaliation.

So my only conclusion is that Republican politicians rely on the hatred of gay people to fuel their party. It makes me really sick to my stomach.

Don't forget their obsession with rolling back reproductive rights.

And after the mass-shooting yesterday in Buffalo by a white nationalist, I'm sure Tucker Carlson is still asking if white nationalism is even a thing. You know, he's just asking.

I'm sure you have watched this at some point, but it's always worthy of another reminder

So now DeSantis wants the state to take control rather than dissolve it? I am guessing he wants to install his cronies on the council so they can make everything as hard as they can be.

I don't think anything works the way he thinks it does. If the state runs the district, the land owners have no representation. And also, what is he talking about "make sure we’re collecting the taxes?" Disney pays more in the current arrangements, not less.
