I just want to see what people's opinions are about this new park. Personally I'm very disapointed by Disney. This park is WAY below the quality of theme park that they hve been producing. The budget cuts are amazing, everyday it seems that some major attraction is getting slahed. The one ride that has been open to CM previews (Rapids ride) and so far people are saying that it is just so-so and has no themeing. Two things make me upset but might not other people. One, DCA is in place of other and much better projects like Westcot) and that Walt Disney himself thought of Disneyland as a place were people could get away from the "carnival" atmosphere and that the rest of the world is blocked out. At DCA there is no Berm and a huge carnival area that goes against everything that Disney wanted.
I understand your emotion, but doesn't EPCOT go against everything Walt wanted as well? He expected people to LIVE in EPCOT, not ride boats and look at giant vegetables set to theme music! I think it's a bit ironic that Disney has truly come ful circle with the Theme Park vs. Carnival notion that Walt began. But, even if they don't admit it, Disney is in a race with Universal and the other competing theme park companies who are adding more and more Disneyesque theming every year! I personally am looking forward to DCA, because I'm sure by opening day (which IS over 7 months away) the park with have plenty of theming, plus some actual thrills and plenty of fun. And Disney quality (even with cutbacks on staff) has rarely wavered. Let's wait and see what hapens between now and then.

"You have to scale a lot of lift hills to coast easily..."
That's just it everyone else is bulding Disneyesque rides (Spiderman. Mib, Rhino Rally) and Disney is not. For example ALL of DCA will not contain one audi-animontronic (sp) figure! Don't look for more themeing becuase from every source that I've read it's not coming.
Just beacuse there will be no audio-anamatrinics does not mean that the park will suck. It may not be at quite the same level as Disneyland, but then again, nothing else is either. The park will be sucessful, it will debut a totaly new type of ride, the inverted simulator, and it will be good, not the greatest ever, but good. It will be interesting to see what Disney does with the seaside park setting.

Six Flags America IS a Six Flags park!

Your right, the park will only suck compared to the standard that Disney has set for itself. Honestly, the park is nothing more than a bunch of movies and a few carnival rides. There are tons of pics on the net if you want to see what it looks like.
What is California Adventure?
DCA is the new second gate at Disneyland. It is located in the old parking lot. It will broken into 7 themed areas.
-Hollywood, this area will be very similar to Disney-MGM studios and will feature a new dark ride, Superstar Limo, and Muppet-Vision 4-D.
-Bountiful Valley Farm, a recreation of a farm with some kids play areas and It's Tough to be a Bug 3-d film.
-Pacific Wharf, a seaside town where you can see people make bread!
-Paradise Pier, new carney area with California Screamin roller coaster, Mad Mouse, Sun Wheel, a space shot (can't remember name), and a handful of spinning rides.
-San Francisco, features a flim highlighting the history of California.
-Grizzly Peak, features Grizzly Rapids Runn (GRR,
get it?)a river rapids.
-Condor Flats, home of Soarin' Over California a new simulator ride that sounds really cool (one of two ride I'm intrested in with California Screamin) you sit in some form of cabin so that it feels that you are paraglyding and then the screen is below you so it looks like you are sorin.
That's about it.
That's about right. jeremyG. I have a good friend who works for Disney. (used to be in the park, now in some sort of office) I will ask for a preview, if he can get me in.
As for size, it is small, like Jeremy said, in the old parking lot of Disneyland. (and Disneyland would fit inside the lot of Disney World, yadda, yadda, yadda)
As for coasters... just one, and not too promising, looks alot like the Revolution at SFMM. (extra understructure makes it look like a classic woody, but it is a steel looper, but not big)
I also hear it will require a seperate admission, and there will be no single Annual Pass for both psrks. All in all, a dissappointment for fans of this site, but a guaranteed $$$$$$$ for Disney.
Oh well, West coast coaster fans will have to wait for SFMM or Knott's to make final plans for a new Giga-coaster (bigger than MF??? I hope)
LOL FloridaFlyer - Never been to EPCOT but I can just envision looking at giant vegetables set to theme music...:) (I'm assuming you're talking about Splash Mountain?)
JeremyG - I wholeheartedly agree with you. One of the reasons I still go to Disneyland at the ripe old age of 28 is to get away from all the bustle Anaheim has to offer. Our yearly excursion to SoCal is always looked forward to because D-Land is so secluded among the trees and noise.
Make no mistake about it - D-Land has to compete with Universal for the young adult dollar. Serving up the mega-budget wholesomeness that Universal, SFMM, etc. does absolutely cannot be accomplished within the restraining confines of D-land without major overhaul. Not to mention - D-land ain't broke, so why fix it? People come from worldwide to see it and drop large quantites of Franklins. D-Land is looking for the 18-24 crowd with DCA.
Will it be profitable? Absolutely.
Do I like it/will I go? Asolutely not. SFMM or Knott's will get my SoCal thrill ride dollar(s).
Actually I think he's talking about the "Food Rocks" show at "The Land." They sing all sorts of nonsensical music about the major food groups like "The Boogie Woogie Bakery Boy" and the "Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit" Cha Cha. It's fun for the kids, I guess.
No, he is talking about the Living with the Land boat Ride and Food Rocks.
JeremyG - I feel as you... I will most likely be quite disappointed with Disney's new park. The Westcot idea would have been much better. Why? The DIG site has a good story on this by Jim Hill. Oh, what might have been!
