Disneyland's Space Mountain Officially Re-Opens July 15th!!!

Hey everyone!!

It has just been recently confirmed over at MouseInfo.com that Disney has officially released the opening date for the totally re-designed Space Mountain roller coaster for July 15th. It will re-open as a part of the grand 50th weekend event that they are holding from July 15th to July 17th, the park's actually 50th anniversary. No details about the event have been released yet.

I'm so excited!! I'm going to definately be there that day....

*PS* - Also, if you didn't know, Tomorrowland is being completely repainted to dark and light blues mixed with whites, silvers, and golds. It looks FANTASTIC. And, Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters had a soft opening the other day and is getting rave reviews. Tomorrowland at Disneyland really seems to be changing for the better! *** Edited 3/5/2005 5:03:45 PM UTC by LightningRacer821***

Ah, shucks. Oh well. :-) I will be there next week. Looks like I will have to get THAT credit next time around. :-D

God that's one park I would love to revisit. I was 7 seven years ago when I went. ;) I somehow got most of the old credits, just I want to go and see what I remember. If anything.

NEXT Coaster Solace, Tina? :)

My first and only trip to DL was more of a drive-thru, so I'll definitely *get* alot more of the park this time around.

I had forgotten how great Space Mtn. was until the recent stop at WDW, it had been a WHILE, and all the parks in the last few years sorta clouded my memory. And with the "upgrades" to DL's version, I'm sure it is gonna be one SWEET ride...

gator, always jealous of the SoCal peeps...;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Well, Happy Birthday to me! It's nice of Disneyland to give me a present like that. It definately is/was/will be a great ride!

Pass da' sizzrup, bro!

So was it ever confirmed if the ride was going to be changed from the original, such as the layout or did they just simply rebuild it from scracth to original specs?

It has been rebuilt completely using the same (good) layout. Apparently everything from the queue on has been redesigned. All new trains as well.
When I was at the park a couple weeks ago, I asked a cast member if there were any signifcant changes besides the soundtrack and special effects. He said that the trains were going to be the single row cars like WDW's version now, but with a "kick-butt" soundsystem in them.

That would explain the entire retracking perhaps. I guess we won't know for sure until July if it is true.

I don't trust Lemon-Chill guy rumors all that much.

Oh, so that explains the lemon chill guy's disapperance from CP for a while. He's been at Disneyland!

I wouldn't believe that. That would reduce capacity severly. But from what I hear it is the exact same layout, just better designed with banking and such to produce less stress on the track. New trains with sound systems that actually work, and may be the same as HKDL's Trains . But the queue will be redone as well, hopefully good as I liked the way the old one was done. The strong rumor is still with the variations of the ride between night and day. Hopefully no significant corners are cut to get it open on time, though even if they do, they will probably add them in through rehabs and what not. Interesting to see how the ride turns out. I loved the old version, and I am sure the new version will be evfen better considering the amount of time they have spent on it.

Welcome one and all, y'all come have a ball! Things a bear-y fine, ridin' on the old Knott's bear-y line!
So.. would the old Space Mountain and the new Space Mountain count as 2 separate credits?

Not just because I'm a credit whore, but yes. They ripped out Space Mountain and replaced it with a new identical copy. If they weren't two, then all those dozen boomerangs I've ridden would just count as one :)

That's what I thought, but I was curious..

Just a note: RCDB lists it as 2 separate coaster installations.

The July opening date is 100% true. It was just confirmed by Matt Ouimet himself a few days ago at the State of the Resort meeting. So yea.. July 15th, 2005

The new effects will be amazing. A new disorienting "launch tunnel" to make it look like you're hurdling into space and a gigantic encounter with a huge meteor to name just a few. There's also supposed to be an amazing and loner re-entry tunnel with really kewl lighting effects. The soundtrack is compleltley new, too. And of course, expect a smoother ride with the new track. The trains will still keep 2 per row.

I live in San Diego luckily, and I am able to get to Disney Land in an hour and 45 minutes or less. I know where everything is. The night before a trip is almost like preparing for war. Designating which rides to hit first in the early hours. Its a great feeling that adrenelin you get when you race for your favorite ride.

I in particular liked the old sound track, if you guys still remember it. The beach boy style guitar with some heavy metal thrown in and dont forget the occasional space techno add in. Im hopping it is not like the space mountain music in europe but more a quitar rock type thing with a slight disney twist. I say keep the orig but make it fresher and a little more space like. The ride before it closed started to not play this music and i was seriously bummin. It doesnt sound very "spacey" when you hear the sound of wheels on a steel track.

Wet Monkey

Ps. Listen to the old ride music and youll agree *** Edited 3/18/2005 4:02:34 AM UTC by wetmonkey***

You have some valuable info. Like I said in my last post. I prefer they keep the orig music with a slight remix and refreshal. Also i was wondering if any one has heard of the possibility of a loop on this new and improved space mountain? i base this on the idea that the maliboomer has one and the older veteran park Disney land wants one too.

Wet Monkey

P.S. you might not find any real proof for this but wouldnt it be great to suddenly find yourself in a loop in a completley dark room. It would take everybody by suprise which is why it might be TOP SECRET

^Surely that could have been said in one post rather than 3.

Maliboomer has a loop? News to me. Never knew S&S offered that on their space shots.
