Disneyland selects its Star Wars employees with fanfare

Disneyland employees wept tears of joy and whooped cheers of excitement when they found out they will be among a select group of 1,400 who will help open the highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed land.

Who's gonna be the first person to excitedly run up to a random cast member (dragging their group behind them) and say, "Hey! Aren't you Han's second cousin!" 😉

I feel like the insane crowds, summer crowds and likely bad behavior of cranky, hot, and frustrated tourists will make the excitement for these positions short lived. It's not like you are hanging out all day with Harrison Ford on a movie set.

I think there is a bit of a PR pitch to this story that “Disney is hiring and growing” and will only help to feed shareholder confidence and growth.

And I agree, the Star Wars lands at both resorts are going to be absolutely mobbed during the foreseeable future and guest expectations will be high. The last place I’d want to be assigned to.

Maybe not, but you get the same thing at every other part of the park. Might as well be in the newest part.

The role playing bit sounds pretty cool to me. I wonder how many work "relationships" will occur between opposing sides? Romeo and Juliet stuff.

Dear cast member,

Your job used to be working on Main Street USA. Your new job is becoming part of Star Wars.

XOXO,

Mickey.

I would also cry.

"This new assignment will be higher pressure, with more guests. You will not be paid anything extra."

I spoke to a cast member yesterday who worked in merchandise for the opening of Avatar, and she said that was a pretty terrible situation, and no thank you for Start Wars.

Yea, but Avatar was pretty terrible, so...

From the article:

Zamora learned to speak English while endlessly watching a VHS copy of “The Phantom Menace” after moving to the United States from Nicaragua.

I mean, hear you have a dude that actually found a use for watching The Phantom Menace more than twice. That, and he seems to like his job at Disney.

I don't know. It's a job that in reality I would totally never want to do more than part of an afternoon (I've done my time in the service sector, thanks). But if I was someone who actually loved my job at Disney (there has to be some of them) and loved Star Wars...

They don't need to hype this place for any reason whatsoever. It sounds like people were genuinely lining up to be part of it. You don't have to be Belle, you get to be your own character with your own backstory. I'm just saying, if you're into this stuff and know what you're signing up for, it sounds like a pretty sweet gig.

It's frickin' Star Wars land!
