Disneyland‘s five-decade tradition of hosting private Grad Nite parties for high school seniors is set to move next door — to Disney California Adventure. Starting in 2013, Disney will host the overnight events exclusively at Disney California Adventure, the company announced Wednesday on the official Disney Parks blog.

Seems like California Adventure is a better fit anywho.
Man, I LOVED grad night '89. I got to see Information Society on the Tomorrowland stage. My parents went for thier grad night too about a year before I was born. End of an era. But back in highschool, I would have preferred DCA with perhaps some time at DL during the day first.
Boost attendance? Since when do after-hours special events count in a parks regular attendance? However, since the park is giving a park hopper ticket to each grad for use during normal operating hours it will count for both parks.
I would be interested to hear if they are going to book fewer schools in per night versus what they have done at DL. While they have increased the capacity of California Adventure from what it had at it's opening, it still can't handle the same amount of patrons that Disneyland can.
I think the MAJOR reason for this change is because Disneyland is about to lose the "Big Thunder Festival area (among others), which used to house a large portion of the "dance" area. I think the upcoming announcements from DL about improvements and additions, will make it very apparent as to why grad night will be moving in 2013.
Most people aren't aware that the Big Thunder Ranch Festival area is a surprisingly large open area used for special events. This spring it was used for the Pirates sneak peek.
if this area were to suddenly be unavailable "cough 2013 cough", then it makes perfect sense to move GN to DCA. Combine this area with the Big Thunder Ranch equestrian area (backstage) and the petting zoo area, and you have a huge chunk of extremely valuable real estate that is about to be gentrified. The World of Color viewing area is a perfect place for both WoC showings AND stages for DJ's and Dancing.
They just wrapped up the last of the 2011 Grad Nights, the 2012 grad nights will happen immediately prior to and during what will be the Premiere of Cars Land, so there's no chance of them moving Grad Night for next year. However, once DCA phase one is done, attention is going to focus on DL, and in a major way. So major that this move makes perfect sense.
