Disney raises ticket prices, crosses $200 for certain dates

I am surprised it took this long to cross the $200 barrier. We paid $160 for one day park hopper tickets at Disneyland 12 years ago in June. On a longer California trip and we only had one day.

My ticket for Tokyo DisneySea cost a whopping $65 give or take for a visit in a few weeks. I know different markets and all that, but the Tokyo resort is comparable in crowd/attendance from my quick search when comparing with Orlando on a per-park basis. I was expecting to pay typical Disney prices, but was surprised to see it so cheap.

One of my coworkers works out of Tokyo a few months a year. He expressed surprise that the parks there are less expensive, especially given the higher cost on a lot of other stuff. That's probably not surprising. Disney has had to adapt their thing in every non-US market.

You have to consider the exchange rate, which is punishing Japan in the last several years - up from about 100 yen per dollar to over 150 yen today. So that's a third of the cost of your tickets. Not all of the gap, but a decent amount.

I was in Tokyo last summer---it was downright cheap thanks to the favorable exchange rate.

It is also worth noting that TDR does not have annual passes at the moment.

Our family Disney trip will be in around a decade, and we're planning on Tokyo at the moment – though if it's open by then Abu Dhabi is a definite possibility too.

I wonder if the cultural cache that Disney has in the States (it's a rite of passage here) drives the pricing up, relative to other markets.

So, you're saying for the same price as admission only for one person to one park at Disney, I could get admission and parking to all Six Flags parks for 16 months for TWO people?

Yes, that’s called synergy.

So people are willing to pay the highest price when the park is going to be the most crowded. Definitely not priced for the quality level of experience……..
