Disney parks have record holiday season

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Walt Disney Co., the world's largest theme-park operator, set a holiday-season attendance record at its Walt Disney World resort in Florida. A marketing campaign to promote the 50th anniversary of Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., boosted attendance throughout Disney's parks and resorts unit.

I'm not surprised. Disney during the holidays is extra incredible. Plus, they just (in CA) pulled out all the stops this year, and the park is in better shape than it has been in maybe 20 years, upkeep wise. If you have the chance to get to DL, do it!

Their 50th CA fireworks show isthe single most incredible thing I've ever seen. I'm seen the current Florida show (super-lame in comparison) and lots of big city 4th of July shows, but this thing just craps over all of them!

Is it safe to say that the majority cross-over attractions from Disneyland to Disney World are cheapened along the way? I saw Fantasmic at DW and watched a video of the same show at DL. Even from the perspective of a hand-held video recorder, it was obvious that the California show is much more elaborate.
Not always cheapened, just different. ToT is said to be far better in Florida. Pirates is said to be a lot better in California. Some attractions are the same in both parks. It just depends on the ride.
First of all, don't assume all duplicate attractions originated at DL. Second of all... usually ;)

Fantasmic at DL has a sense of 'place' that it can never have in a specially built ampitheatre. On top of that the show is tighter.

As for rides themselves, here's my personal opinions on a few

(rides with a * originated at Disneyland)

*Pirates: much much better at DL

Thunder Mountain: (opened the year before FL's, but originally conceived for WDW) slight edge to WDW

Space Mountain: Haven't ridden the redo but preferred Anaheim's anyway. The one in Tokyo is my favorite, though, as it is still white and has DL's layout.

*Splash Mtn: better at WDW, but even better in Tokyo

*Haunted Mansion: almost identical layouts, but edge given to DL for queue atmophere, the fact you walk in the front doors of the mansion, and it has actual elevators in stretch room to get patrons below the train tracks.

Coastercrazy...yes...and I agree with theme designer. I visited WDW first, and then when I visited DL several years later for the first time, I was surprised howbetter many things were. There are a few exceptions: TOT, and Splash are the main two. Sadly, the Splash in Florida is in terrible disrepair (last ridden in October), so I give the slight edge to DL for now.

Right now, given the choice beterrn spending 7 days at WDW or 3 at DL....I'd choose DL. (Of course, I'd trade both those just to go back to Tokyo DL forjust a few hours!)*** This post was edited by Peabody 1/13/2006 11:31:01 AM ***
