Disney offers bonus Nintendo DS Pirates content in parks

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Beginning on Friday at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in Orlando, consumers who bring their Nintendo DS and "At World's End" game to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride will be able to seek out 10 secured wireless hot spots to download free exclusive game content that won't be available anywhere else. The gaming stations will be marked with a Pirates "X" at different areas through Labor Day at both parks.

Interesting. Though, if I were spending the money to go to Disney, I doubt I'd be wasting my time looking for video game downloads. Maybe if I were a local with a season pass.*** This post was edited by Jason Hammond 5/21/2007 6:10:30 PM ***
I was thinking the same thing, Jason - isn't an amusement park enough? Do we really need to bring video games with us? But after thinking for a while, I suppose it's actually a clever idea to promote doing something fun while you're waiting on those long Disney lines.
This is an excellent cross-selling strategy for Disney, tying in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie with the video games and the theme park. It will have minor impacts on attendance, but it will be a major event for serious POTC fans.

I was in Disneyland a couple weeks ago. As well as riding both POTC and Peter Pan, I sought out for temporary stages and sets for the premiere, and got a few photos of on the pirate ship. <Arggg!>
