Disney may want to make Anaheim its next Orlando

Posted | Contributed by Rowtyd

Disney won't say what the latest plan is for Anaheim, but sources familiar with the planning process said Disney wants to mimic its Florida blueprint in Anaheim: add time-share units, bring its popular cruise line to the West Coast and zero in on high-end consumers with boutique hotels. New attractions for its lackluster California Adventure are in the works, and Disney is giving fresh consideration to its long-promised third theme park.

Related parks

I've never been out there. But I assumed there wasn't much room for a second, let alone a third park.
Edit: I guess I should have read the article. ;)

Interesting, though it will never become another Orlando. Disney did Orlando very well, Anaheim was never planned out to be the same so it will never match in sheer size and location. It might get almost as many parks, but it'll never beat the location. Disneyworld feels like it's own world, and is in forests and separated from just about everything else. You can't turn a downtown district into something like that. I guess I'll have to wait and see what they do/can do.
The most intresting thing is the proposed "low-income" housing or whatnot is not right next to Disneyland as everything suggests but rather right next to the area where they said the third park would go (if it ever happened - but one of the high ups at Disneyland recently said in a interview that they are looking at ideas for a 3rd park).
What's the latest on that other park that was proposed to be built in Anaheim? I can't recall the name, but seems like it was about 3 miles from DL. Anyone heard anything else on it?

Lower right corner is a strawberry field if you can believe it: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&z=16&ll=33.803418,-117.915788&spn=0.012499,0.01296&t=h&om=1

There have been a lot of ideas kicked around for it. But they really need to get DCA on track before developing it. But I'm sure they want to have a plan in place in case the changes they make to DCA actually start drawing crowds.

Sounds to me like they think part of the DCA problem is that their core base of SoCal folks are only day trippers. And if you are there for only a day and take a look left or right when you come in, you usually head left.

They only way to really offset this situation would be to attract more multiple day tourists with more hotels and more to do.

Gads, I hope they do not make it like Disney World!!! Then they wont take care of their park, wont paint their stuff, and have inferior rides to the ones being installed at the other Disney properties. :)

Seriously, though, I do not seeing Disneyland becoming a destination like Disney World is. It's too entrenched in the city to make people feel like they are escaping. They can't keep people there like they can in Florida.

Sure they can, they just need a larger berm. ;)
Not to bring the WDW fans out if there are any on the Buzz out of the woodwork. But Disneyland by itself not even including the soon to be ravmped DCA is far superior than any one of the Florida parks and in this enthusiast mind the whole as well. The ride and show count if you exclude the waterparks is damn close WDW - 73 DLR - 66. Also the version of the shows in Calis is generally far superior and much better kept plus the crowd far better than those encountered in Florida. Heck if you count the E tickets up it close as well.

If they do build a 3 park it better be as good as Disney Sea, and perhaps have parts of Epcot as well, the Hotels will be no problem as they are damn good at that.

But Cali's Pirates are better than Florida's. Neener! ;)
