The classic dark ride Spaceship Earth at Disney's Epcot may be removed for a new attraction called "Time Racers" to open in 2007, according to an Orlando TV station.

I got a B&M T-shirt!
Maybe it's not the arrow track just the transitions.
Now a 4th dimension in there, that would be a surprise!
JoshO,
Apparently, you do not have children. Imagine taking a kid to McDonald's and telling him he can't have any French Fries. Imagine taking a kid to the ice cream store and telling him he can only have a water. Imagine taking a kid to the Magic Kingdom and telling him he can't see Mickey Mouse.
The "golf ball" is the most memorable part of Epcot and, particularly for returning guests, the kids not being allowed to ride would create a nightmare for thousands of parents every day.
I do have kids, 6 of them for that matter, and they are bored with Spaceship Earth. They're not removing the sphere, only changing the ride inside. One of my biggest issues with Disney is that they are slow to update. They start in the "future", they let it pass them by. Remember how Tomorrowland looked only 5 or 6 years ago? It was like a bad 70's movie set. It took them until 1996 or so to make the update.
I enjoy Spaceship Earth, but time does not stand still, not even for Disney.

CoasterDad,
I am not suggesting it should be not updated/changed. It SHOULD. I just think that whatever ride/attraction is put in their should allow for as much access as possible. A 48" height limit, for instance, would keep a lot of kids out of the ball that they used to be able to go into.
After re-reading the article, the proposed change would still be family oriented. A "moving theater" with a 2400pph capacity. But I do understand where you are coming from. EPCOT has always been the "adult" Disney park. (Please check your dirty minds at the door.) There isn't too much there to really thrill a young child. I believe it is more about relaxing and education than thrills. They added the thrills later to boost attendance.

I'm all for the overhaul. The ONLY thing I remember about my ride in the "golf ball" was that these 2 punks sitting a few seats back somehow got out of the train and were walkling along the side of it. Every time they got out the train would stop and an announcement would come on over the system and tell them to get back in the train. On the THIRD time FINALLY security came in and removed them from the ride. I dont even remember anything that happened pertaining to the actual ride itself.

We have waited all through the years for the 6 jokers cards...Carnival of Carnage, the Ringmaster, the Riddlebox, the Great Milenko, the Amazing Jeckel Brothers and now the 6th and Final card...the Wraith. What will happen now?

I just think Arrow gets an inappropriately "bad rap" and I'm a little sensitive about it. I'm trying to work the anger out in more constructive ways. I think the whole Drachen Fire saga really did something to me psychologically. *** This post was edited by ophthodoc on 11/26/2002. ***
I'm ok with Disney changing the ride, and I see the point behind it, but did they really have to put that stupid Mickey arm on it? Honestly.

They need to be really careful. I think when remade The Land Pavilion they ruined it. They got rid of "Listen to the Land" song and made the ride more scientific orientated and it became really booooring.
I wish they would keep the basic ride, just update some of the effects and animatronics.
I Agree with you mamba! Someone Please tell me, if they are taking it down, Are they removing the whole ride and the "Golf Ball" It's in???
