Disney Hates Thrill Enthusiasts?

This weekend, I reaffirmed my love for Space Mountain DL. For a ride that tops out at 32 MPH, it is incredibly fun. I could not stop laughing the whole way (and we did it 4 times). I could easily make a case that it's better than <random B&M hyper>.

Yea. Love space mountain. I guess it’s all the effects, darkness and sounds that make it truly great. Makes it feel scary and somewhat out of control.

if it was outdoors in the sunlight with zero effects, it would probably be fairly Ho hum.

A while back someone asked me, if you could go on one more roller coaster, what would it be, and my answer was either Space Mountain DL or The Beast.

DL Space is nice, but I’ve always been a Big Thunder guy. It’s my favorite Mountain at the Magic Kingdoms, I love the full bench, comfy restraints, and the visuals are just so fun, especially at night. Left side of castle parks are the best half of castle parks.

If you say it's your favorite mountain at Magic Kingdom, I'm with you. MK Space is not nearly as good. If you intentionally pluralized MK's to include DL, we now have two things to fight about.

Sorry Favorite Mountains (past and present):

  1. MK Splash*
  2. DL BTMRR
  3. MK BTMRR
  4. DLP Hyperspace
  5. Matterhorn
  6. DL Space
  7. DL Hyperspace*
  8. DL Ghost Galaxy*
  9. MK Space
  10. DL Splash*

They don’t call Tianas a mountain so it’s not on the list, but both would be at the bottom. Also DLP BTMRR was closed when I went which is why it’s not on this list. I agree DL Space is better than MK but I still prefer BTMRR and even the Matterhorn to it. While the soundtrack is great, as are the effects, the ride layout is very repetitive (most of the ride is, short drop, turn right, ramp up, turn right, repeat.) I think from a pure coaster perspective MK Space is actually better. Give me a night ride on BTMRR over Space anyday.

I’m also still sad they lessened the greatest log flume of all time. There is no tension on it anymore, let’s go find a band? Come on. You picked the movie with the best villain in the modern era, who also sings the best song in that movie, and did not put him in the ride, robbing it of any sense of danger at all. Major mistake, that cave right before the big drop was crying out to be Friends on the Other Side. I really hope they add him to the ride at some point.

I can't wait to ride the refurbished/rebuilt Big Thunder at Magic Kingdom. I miss that ride.

DLR’s Space Mountain wasn’t as fantastic as I remembered it, but there were ten intervening years, and the Disneyland Paris Space Mountain was during that interval. The Paris Space Mountain is my favorite of any from the three MK-style parks I’ve been to (Magic Kingdom, Disneyland, Disneyland Paris). It’s also the only roller coaster to best MK’s Splash Mountain.

Side note: didn’t do the Disneyland Tiana ride due to temperatures, but even with the new overlay, the Magic Kingdom one is still the best of all the mountains outside of the aforementioned French Vekoma masterpiece. Fight me.
