Disney has patent for identifying guests by their shoes

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

According to a patent filed last year, Disney wants to use covert cameras hidden around the park to photograph and track guest’s shoes and other footwear to keep tabs on where they go, or what attractions they’re visiting.

Wouldn't there be a lot of guests with the same shoes?

Hey, let's ride (random Intamin coaster). What? It's broken down? I totally didn't expect that.

Target uses software to track shoplifters by the fade patterns of their jeans. They were able to link multiple thefts across state lines to file federal charges against a networks of thieves.

Note to self: Take several pairs of shoes into the park with me. Pack next to the tin foil hat.

Coincidentally, I put covert cameras on my shoes at Disney to take pictures of... well, nevermind.

Wouldn't facial recognition technology already cause this shoe thing to be obsolete?

They're probably assuming people will find it less creepy to follow shoes than faces.

Why am I reminded of the restroom challenge of trying to find an empty stall, and identifying *occupied* stalls by the presence of shoes?

Because North Carolina plans to license this Disney technology to determine the gender of the people in the stalls by their shoes.

Sometimes I try to figure out if I'm friends with the person in the poop stall by looking at their shoes, because I'm concerned about smelling the sh*t of someone I know.
