Disney Considering Building Several Small Parks

^The Keys?

I am suddenly STRUCK by the idea of the Simpsons kids bugging Homer...
"Can you take us to Mt. Trashmore? Can you take us to Mt. Trashmore? Can you take us to Mt. Trashmore?"

Suddenly Splash Mountain seems less appealing... ;)

I'm actually a little surprised that Disney would want to spread their stuff around the country because I would think that would turn some people away from the resorts. Unless they thing people will get a taste and want to experience the whole meal?

No just the opposite, I think.

It let's people who can't afford the whole meal get a taste. The additional business from folks who will never visit the Orlando or California parks would probably outweigh the people who would now skip the trip by a ridiculous margin.

Gate cost doesn't really matter as much as parks would like us to think (if it did, more parks would follow the Knoebels model). No, it comes down to what your park has. Universal lowers their prices, but there's nothing added to the park to justify buying a ticket.

I would go out on a limb and say, as a broad generalization, Americans would choose added value over discounts. It's the Wal-mart rule...

Maybe you're right, Gonch. It could go either way, depending on what Disney decides to put in these micro parks and what they charge for them. Will people view them as a quick and easy way to get a taste of Disney, or will they be viewed as extortion? I'm thinking that people saw Disney Quest as the latter and that's one of the reasons that idea tanked.
They should Build more World of Disney Stores .

They should not be worrying about more aprks. Build more World Of Disney Stores Like the one here in NYC.

This store rocks . You can get pictures with the characters, get stuff from the parks shipped to the store.

This store sells the exact same emrchandise that you get at the parks since its run by the people who run the parks.

These stores would be much different the nthe disney stores that you see in the mall.

Disney no longer owns the Disney Stores. They were failing and ended up being sold to The Childrens Place who purchased the entire chain for just the cost of the stock. I am not sure if they want to try building a chain again. But I could see a few stores in major markets like Chicago and Vegas.

You have to give Eisner some credit here... Disney opens a chain of successful stores just to run it into the ground.

Disney stores as they were originall developed were so unique. Cells, high end gifts, etc were great. Over time, the Disney Store became a costume shop for girls with some plush. As an adult without kids, I stopped going into the place.

Then, of course, they popped up in every single mall instead of being a regional attraction. They overexposed it ("Who Wants to be a Millionaire") and it was downhill from there.

Say they do build one of these "micro" parks, what would the attractions be? Would they have a potc or haunted mansion type attractions?

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Haunted Mansion would be reduced to Haunted Shed, Pirates of the Caribbean would be Pirates of the Pond, Splash Mountain would be Splash Molehill, It's A Small World would be.. It's An Even Small.. er.. World..... etc. Everything is there, just snack size. *** Edited 2/14/2007 7:53:30 AM UTC by P18***
I've been reading this thread and wanted to clarify a couple of things.

The parks being talked about here would be small scale, highly personalized and very expensive. They would have interactive shows and one-on-one experiences. Think more along the lines of Discovery Cove, not Magic Kingdom. Jay Rasulo has said that the admission would be "several times" the current cost.

Also, all of this talk is "blue sky planning", which means. more likely than not it won't even materialize.

The world of disney is not the same store that the chidlrens place bought.

This is a completely different store run by the theme park section that runs the parks.

here is the link

Trust me its compeltely different then those stores in the mall.

I was very well aware of that fact when I wrote my message. The Disney stores at both Downtown Disney's are also called World of Disney if thats not a big enough hint. All I was trying to get at was the fact that I was not sure if Disney wanted to try to build a new chain of stores again after the failure of their last attempt.

I think Disney should build an entire property in Vegas. Huge hotel (5,000+ rooms), indoor amusement and water parks, Downtown Disney shopping area. It could be themed to the city of Agrabah from Aladdin complete with the Sultans palace as the center piece similar to the Castles at other Disney parks. One of the hotels towers could be a Disney vacation club location. Plus the hotel could feature a Broadway stage or two and they could run some of the Disney Broadway plays. *** Edited 2/14/2007 6:14:45 PM UTC by Kenban***

As hard as Vegas tried, I think they have given up on the "family" vacation idea. I certainly wouldn't take my young family on a vacation to Vegas, Disney or no Disney. Now, I would take my wife.......

.....or my girlfriend!
