The studio has hired Jason Dean Hall to write a script for the Matterhorn project, which has a working title of "The Hill." The idea is to do a thrilling, fast-paced movie centering on five young adventure seekers who, for mysterious reasons, are called to the top of the mountain and encounter a Yetis on the journey down.

I guess Haunted Mansion wasn't good enough.
The article skips the part where, halfway through the movie, the yetis stop functioning, and they place fans on them to try and make them appear somewhat lifelike.

I don't think the Abominable Snowman has any motion at all. Just those cool color changing LED eyes.

While you are correct, I count Everest as "Matterhorn East" so I can make reference to that in with this. :)
That's not fair, Matterhorn Bobsleds has been around for 52 years and Expedition Everest for five, it should be the other way around. :)

But while visiting the Swiss Alps during filming of the movie Walt Disney was inspired to add a mountain to Disneyland. He choose to replicate the Matterhorn because of its mystic, awe inspiring geometry and feasibility. As far as I remember there are no bobsleds in Third Man on the Mountain.
