Disney closes gates of Magic Kingdom and Disney-MGM at capacity

Big holiday crowds Wednesday afternoon forced Walt Disney World to temporarily close the gates at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom for one to two hours after they reached capacity. Traffic was diverted for a couple of hours at Disney-MGM Studios after the main parking lot filled.

Sounds like WDW is on the rise and doing well or is this a new year fling. Walt would love this.
I actually went to disney for 3 days, and that wednesday when the mouse kicked us out. What was the case with my situation was we were at Animal Kingdom and had a 2 day hopper. It was our 2nd day at disney, and after going on Everest, Dinosour, and a few others, we decided to go to the Magic Kingdom at around 1pm. However when we went to the bus, I was informed that they were not traveling to the Magic Kingdom. I asked why, and they said they closed the gates to there and Animal Kingdom. So we actually decided to leave the whole facility, and ended up spending some time at IOA. However, we did return at 11pm or so, after calling and realizing the parks had allowed guest to enter again at 2pm or so. I did end up getting rides on Space and Thunder Mountain. However due to the overall crowds, closing the gates, they gave us a free day after discussing what happened at guest relations.

The next day was just as crowded, but the evening hours allowed for more riding. Went to Magic Kingdom for the 3rd and free day, went onThunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Haunted Manision, Small World, Buzz Lightyear, Hall of Presidents, among others. Overall the pathways were just to crowded to enjoy the park. However the waits, with fast pass and from 10-12 pm were reasonable and where you could do the most riding.*** This post was edited by Beast Fan 1/1/2007 5:02:53 PM ***

There are rumors floating that Epcot had the single largest attendance day EVER...of ANY Disney park in the history of the company on New Year's Eve. I would love to know that that count was.
This right here is excatly why I don't go to Disney parks. The crowds down there are way to bad.
Just got back from a WDW vacation, and while it was nuts, my family and I got to do everything in the parks we wanted by using the Fastpasses to their advantage and wait the minimal wait for attractions with no FP in the morning,(Pirates of the Caribbean at Magic Kingdom had a 10 minute wait minutes after opening, ride it then!). Sure, there was a lot of people, but Disney can send people through lines fast.

Oh, and the longest posted wait that we saw on the trip goes to: Soarin' at Epcot, on New Years Eve. 240 minutes. Unreal, and you get a lot of dirty stares when you pass the entire line with a Fastpass. Second longest wait was 180 minutes at Mission: Space, which I had to wait. Test Track also had an incredible line that day.
