Disney and TV Station Ownership

Disney is an affiliate with ABC, and now FOX is an afiliate with ABC. Does this give Disney control over FOX as well as ABC broadcasting?

Let's not forget the Dozens of cable networks including ESPN.

Unless we're talking about coaster or park advertising, how exactly is this related to the site?

I've heard several people mention that since Disney is affiliated with so many television stations, parks owned by different companies ( Cedar Fair, Six Flags, Busch Gardens, Universal, etc. ) can't advertise on those stations.

They do. Very tipical to see a Knotts/SFMM commercial playing on ABC. But then they have things like weather forecasts from DCA on its opening day.

I see commercials featuring Universal on 6ABC in Philadelphia all the time. Yes, some are for other products/services and just happen to feature Universal, but some are simply travel commercials for Universal.

My thinking would be if it brings people to Orlando how could that be bad for Disney?

FOX is an affiliate with ABC? Huh? I'm a broadcast student so maybe I can clear this up.

ABC is wholly owned by The Walt Disney Company. Broadcast networks are only able to own a certain amount of TV stations Yes, ABC does own some stations, but not all of them. The majority of stations that carry ABC programming are independent from the networks and sign contracts to carry that programming (this is true with all networks)

In regards to the non-network owned stations, they can sell ad time to whomever they want to. Actually, it is ILLEGAL to deny any person who wants to run ads on a station (this is why you hear ads for satellite radio on regular FM and AM radio) This is why you see ads featuring Universal and Busch parks on ABC affiliates.

We almost forgot about Viacom, which own the CBS television network as well as the Paramount Studios AND parks. It works the same way.

I hope I didn't lose anyone. I haven't heard about the FOX and ABC thing. Can you clarify?

"Your village called. They're missing their idiot."

Outside the ESPN type channels, Disney owns the 2 U.S. Disney Channels, Toon Disney, Soapnet, ABC Family, 15 int'l Disney Channels, 2 int'l playhouse disney channels, 2 int'l toon disney channels, and 12 INT'L FOX KIDS CHANNELS.

They partially own: Lifetime, Lifetime movie network, lifetime real women, E!, style, A&E, The History Channel, The history Channel Int'l, and lastly the biography channel.

So yes, disney OWNS 12 Fox branded networks across europe and the middle east.

Last time i checked ABC was ownded by Disney. Fox had no affiliation at all, but hey what does a journalism student know?
