Discovery: Thrill's, Chill's, And Spills

Just an update on the voting going on at: http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/coasters/poll/poll.html .

As the pulls are right now,Raven is the number one coaster with 43% of all the total votes, followed by Incredible Hulk with 22% of the votes. Be sure to vote on your favorite coaster on the link above and tune into the all new Thrill's, Chill's and Spill's 2002 starting at 6:00 P.M (ET/PT) May 27, on the Discovery Channel.

P.S. I know that sounded like an advertisement, but I just wanted to make it sound proffesional.

The Top 10 show is already done. I got an offline edit copy. They apparently announced the results elsewhere as well, since I recall a thread about Hulk being #1.

Too bad this poll is incredibly inaccurate since one can vote over and over and over if they wish. That, and the original poll where they chose these coasters from only included a certain number of coasters. Too bad they don't take the results of a more reliable coaster poll, such as the ones online (can't remember the name but there were two separate wooden and steel tracked internet coaster polls).

Also, more people may have ridden the Hulk due to it's location in a popular tourist destination, however it is not the best roller coaster in the country. Most of those on here can vouch for that. It's also biased becuase many Floridians have only ridden B&M's, so they can't speak for the wuality of other manufacturers (Intamin specifically).

I cant understand how much Raven is in the lead!

Roller Coasters or sports? I guess there are questions nobody can answer!

Alright, sure I am Floridian, but I've ridden pretty much every type of steel coaster in contention for top spots, and no the Hulk is not my favorite... But, I can clearly see why it recieved the rank it did. What you dont seem to understand is that these are not the Coasters' Choice Awards, and this is not a poll voted on by enthusiasts for the most part, but by the General Public. The Hulk, while it has its intense moments, is a ride that everyone, from the casual park goer, to the hardcore enthusiast, can enjoy. It's inviting when you come upon it, because it looks crazy, but not too crazy... While if you look at Millennium Force, my personal favorite coaster, its easy to see why some people would shy away from it, because it is an over the top ride... (Pun Intended) And you know how the old GP saying goes, "That's boring... It doesn't have any loops." However, I must admit that is not very apparent in the fact that the #2, #3, #4, and #5 steel coasters are hypers. And finally yes, Orlando tourism is certainly a factor in it's popularity. But it only makes sense that a coaster ridden by the most people should be at the top of the list... The show is for the general public, and the general public naturally wants to see the coasters they've ridden.

Ok, since we all feel that this vote is inacurate, lets all have our own with the then coaster listed on the discovery channel site. Just type the number that corrisponds with the coasters listed below and your reasoning behind why you chose it....
1) Incredible Hulk (IOA)
2) Millenium Force (CP)
3) Goliath (SFMM)
4) Nitro (SFGV)
5) Magnum XL-200 (CP)
6) The Beast (PKI)
7) Son Of Beast (PKI)
8) Thunderbolt (KW)
9) Ghost Rider (KBF)
10) Raven (HW)

Remeber, you only get one vote. The voting will end when everyone does not want to vote anymore. If it comes to if, and if we need to Jeff, i can just start anouther topic to do this.

2. nothing compares

-----------------
top 5:
5) s:ros sfdl 4) raptor 3) apollos chariot 2) magnum
1) millennium force

Even with my kennywood bias, i have no idea why the thunderbolt can be one of the 5 woodies, that just confuses me when you have other wooden coasters out there like Boulder Dash, and The Legend. But, i have no idea why the phantoms revenge is not on there, when it was voted ahead of nitro as best new steel coaster last year.

Yea, you got it this is the infamous Token from the worlds greatest, KPU.

Has anyone tried playing any of the videos? I`ve tried, but nothing seems to happen?

-----------------
I`ve ridden Son of Beast 67 times!

The videos are incredibly professional (I guess it is the Discovery Channel). They are some of the best videos I have seen.

But anyway, Ghostrider is getting no love in this poll!

And Thunderbolt is more than deserving of its recognition in this poll. It is top notch, and has the most creative layout that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Not to mention the wonderfully excessive lateral and negative G's on the ride!

Xcelerator-
0-82 in 2.3 seconds! =Wow!

Why can't they be smart and put the videos in Quicktime, AVI, or MPEG format? I hate those stupid files like they have and esp. Realplayer ones (*puke*). They rarely work, and when they do work, they have crappy quality and skip all the time (they ain't made for a modem).

LMAO....Ridden all five of those steelies, and Goliath is my #2, and until I get to another version, SFA's S:RoS leads by a considerable margin.....for me...:). Nitro is my favorite Beemer, still better overall than S:UF, and about even with MF....I love 'em all though.

As far as wood, GhostRider and Raven certainly rank right up there, and T-Bolt not far behind, but with Cornball, ShivTim, Legend with PTCs, and the night rides on the updated Beast on "the plan", my wooden coaster *ratings (i.e., rantings) may look considerably different in the near future....:)...CI Cyclone, Roar, rank up there, too....

i noticed that too...hehehe. i'm gonna go will #11...Shivering Timbers...oh sorry. ;) Split my vote between the other 2 CCI's. I'm a woodie man...steel just doesn't do it for me...

-----------------
I've just seen the future...what was I saying?

Whoever picked the candidates for the list sure made some interesting choices. I love my Thunderbolt (especially the way it's running this year) but I can think of a dozen other woodies I'd have placed on this poll.

Not that I mind Kennywood being in there, but Phantom's Revenge meets those steelies better than Thunderbolt meets those woodies...

For people who have been on Raven, is it a great ride?

I'll take Superman:Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England for #1 steel even if it isn't up there(those bonhead polls).

Anyone know what coasters will be featured on the Ultimate Guide to Roller Coasters show?
