Following last week's preview showing of "The World's Largest Amusement Park," a documentary about the operations of Cedar Point, people are wondering why the show that aired last night on Discovery Channel in the US didn't deliver the allged sighting of blueprints from the park's planning and design office.
The truth is, according to Cedar Point's Janice Witherow, that the version shown at the preview event was the international version, a full 50 mintutes in length. To make room for the US time slot, it had to be reduced to 46 minutes.
In either case, the hype surrounding the segment would have disappointed people anyway. CoasterBuzz member Dave "RideMan" Althoff, Jr. explains in a post made to the forums:
"Here's what you didn't see. A segment covered the operation of the Design and Planning Office. In that segment, we were treated to some pictures of the models that have been constructed of various ride elements and the like. Design and planning folks are shown working with the drawings which appear to be the 2001 midway renovation plan (I remember seeing something about a jumping fountain)...you know, the renovation that didn't happen this year. At the end of the segment, The Blueprints were hauled out...a roll of prints in the hands of a park planner, identified as the park's top-secret 5-year Plan. A hand from behind the camera reaches for them, but is denied as the planner pulls them away. No, you can't see what's on them. But you get to see the blueprints of the park's 5-year Plan."

Just wanted to comment on the 5 year plan deal...
This could be a plan not just dealing with rides, maybe the boardwalk project and increasing space in the park and taking revenge to get the most roller coasters in one park title back. (That had to be a good advertisement)

8 feet higher and a 6.5 feet longer drop, could never contest with a 80 degree, non-braking giga-coaster... Sorry, Steel Dragon 2000
Yeah I have to agree with sfdl dude you guys are a little over zealous about CP. I like the park myself, but some of you guys are obsessed. CP will get what they get, and what does it matter about the 5 year plan? Yeah it would have been cool to see that segment, but they didn't reveal anything anyway. We'll find it out in time anyway.
OK, I KNOW I heard someone say "CLEAR!" in the laundry room!!!

Live to have FUN!
Go Shamrocks!
Go Wolverines!
Yes somebody did yell "Clear" in the laundry room.

I dance like a special ed. kid that was given a sparkler.
I think the show would have been much more exciting if they would have shown the parks planning and designing office.
I mean really who in the amusement world really cared if CP had their very own police department.
To me it really didn't matter if I seen the blueprints or not,I just thought it would be cool to actually see the planning office.
Chill out people. We'll see the blueprints sooner or later. Chill out y'all!

Hmm... And once, on another coaster show, a certain someone, at Cedar Point, said 'There's no long-term plan for them, they just grew.'
Just like someone else, on another show, said 'You can't just take the world's tallest coaster and build it in the middle of a parking lot'.
Getting back to what Dave Osborne said about the sweepers at CP. I was a sweeper out at SFGAm back in 1988 (I was only 15, so I could not run any rides yet, but wanted to work at the park). Anyway, you do a ton of walking every day. Just to tell you how much money you find, I put every penny that I found in a jar at my house. At the end of the season (which back then was the last week in April to Columbus Day in October) I had over $6. Remember folks, that was ALL Penny's! No nickles, dimes, quarters, etc. Of course, I did find them as well, but I only kept count of the penny's.
I really did like the both shows, and I hope that some of the other parks (Paramount, SF) follow suit and maybe have shows of their own.

Yeah, he said Clear. LOL.
Each Laundry machine is a long tube split in half. So they load 1 half, close it, then add the soap to compartments on the side. Then they have to spin the tube over, so they push a button and it flips over. This is when he said Clear to make sure no hands we're in the machine. Then they do the same thing to the other side, close up the entire thing, then start it. Each one can hold 125 pounds of laundry which they weigh before each load. There's your play by play of the laundry machine.
I wonder if they throw away the old versions of the plans without shreeding them. Anyone wanna go dumpster diving with me? Wonder if we could hire the sweeper girl to help us?

So, aside from the laundry/D&P issue, I have a MF question! Does anyone know how the anti rollback system works on the lift hill? During the show, someone mentioned how quiet it is going up (obviously I haven't ridden myself) which tells me there aren't the normal dogs going clankety-clank.
Three cheers for Dick Kinzel! He's done wonders for the park, and he's a very nice guy. When I worked there, he would stop and take a moment to chat and make sure everything was going well. Great guy.
Coast on!

I just came back from a 2-day trip to Cedar Point today (I saw Joe E in line for Millennium Force). It was great, I can't wait to see what comes next for Cedar Point. I can't get enough of this place.

To answer someone's request, Discovery Channel already did a show on SFMM last year. It was great.
