Disaster Transport in the 70's Questions

Most definitely I stand by my assertion that is is not that much different.

If there were 300 more feet of water then Oceana and the marina along with under millies station would all be under water.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

Maybe this article will help.

What you aren't seeing is in 1985-1986, Lake Erie's water levels were at an all time high. Levels are nearly a foot lower than average. http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/news/sep01/0914waterlevels.htm

Note the statement near the bottom of this article.

Accordingly, water levels this year are 4 inches below average, and 32 inches below the all time high which was recorded in July 1986. That's nearly 3 feet according to the chart at the bottom of this page: http://huron.lre.usace.army.mil/levels/weekly.html

MagnumForce, you live in Michigan. Don't you ever read the newspapers? Water levels in the Great Lakes has been a major topic every summer.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

With the new themeing, however, DT is a good ride this year, those starfields are a nice touch.

Actually RPMGuitar, the old man could have been referring to the Flying Turns at Euclid Beach Park, just mixing his parks around.

You may be right, I never thought of that. Maybe he thinks that CP purchased the ride from Euclid Beach.

I do read the papers CPLady but alas I live in the middle of the state and if i get to the lakes it is either because I go to Cedar Point or Michigan's Adventure. And 3 feet is relatively insignificant. By your calculations there should be another 300 feet of water or 300 feet less beach. If that were the case there would be serious serious flooding problems at CP.

3 feet would not make as much difference as you are trying to say it would.

I remember when Avalanch Run opened... I rode it the first year. The lines took FOREVER. Unbelieveable how slowly they moved. And the ride just wasn't that fun except towards the end.

When they enclosed it, the ride was a bit better. The wait was a BIT more tolerable because you were at least somewhat entertained during it. Of course, they've dropped 95% of all that entertainment now. And the effects on the ride itself made the first half almost interesting. It's still not a bad ride if it's one of the first things you do, before your body gets used to being thrown about by the likes of The Raptor or The Demon Drop.

I've been waiting for them to demolish it and put something new in there for years now.
