Barry Diller is tied to Vivendi's film, television and theme park businesses by a rope of intertwined relationships left over from the sale of his USA Networks. The many financial and contractual strands binding them are so complicated that few people understand them, even on Wall Street and at the companies themselves, senior executives of Vivendi and Diller's InterActiveCorp have said. But among other things, Diller has often said he thinks that Vivendi owes his company $2.4 billion, and he has sued Vivendi for reimbursement of certain tax liabilities, too. He would like to be paid sooner rather than later.
