Did CP do enough to market Dragster?

The announcement made the local news here in IL, and my aunt in Cleveland who doesn't follow coasters heard about it. The Dragster site at CP looks great too. I'd say that word got around pretty well, but do you think they could have done better? After CP saw what PKI did last year with TR: TR, I'm surprised they didn't pull something similar. It seems to me like there was much more anticipation for last year's flat ride than this year's stratacoaster. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Granted, TR:TR is a great ride, but I think Dragster will be better. It seems PKI had so much more hype surrounding TR: TR than CP did with Dragster. I know CP couldn't do exactly what PKI did, because you can't hide a 420' tower of coaster track behind a fence, but they couldn't they have done something more to get more people into it?

its cedar point, its 420 feet tall that goes 120 mph, i dont think they need to do much.

I wouldn't say there wasn't anticipation for Dragster...

Well you have to remember that this was only the announcement. Cedar Point doesn't generally start marketing their new rides until close to the season opening.

From a non-ohioan, Dragster has MUCH more hype that TR:TR. I never once heard of TR:TR outside of enthusiast sites. No non-enthusiast friends had ever heard of it, even now. On the other hand friends and relatives from all over the country called/emailed me when they heard about Dragster. I struggle to think of a non-enthusiast friend who hasn't heard of it.

I agree that CP still has months to go until opening, and they dont need to start their adverstisements until then. This was really just an announcment, not necessarily an advertisement.

My homepark, PKD, does the same thing. Although Hypersonic was on the website, there wasnt much to hear about until close to the opening day. Advertisting does cost money you know.....

Cedar Point has not yet begun to market Dragster...

Yeah..I was going to say..they've advertised on their website, but as soon as the opening day nears, CP should be everywhere just like ever other year. There has been very little marketing til now.

I agree they haven't even started to market it yet. I am sure TLC/Discovery channels were probably there filming the construction for this years Making of a Coaster show. I predict that Dragster is the steel, and Celebration City's new ride is the woodie. Just a hunch.

I just heard an analyst on FOX news say "Buy FUN!" Not sure if she mentioned Dragster or not, but people know who they are!

Dave is correct! The marketing blitz has not even started yet, folks. The announcement/ press release was send out, and some stations picked up on it. You will know when the marketing begins, I can assure you that! :)

The Dragster thing is nice and all, but I'm getting tired of seeing every other topic with Dragster in it. There are other coasters that are being built this year to as well.

Hey, I'm not raining on the parade, I'm just telling it like it is.

Welcome to whenever Cedar Point builds a new rollercoaster. It happened with Millennium Force and with Wicked Twister.

No KIDDING! Bigger isn't always better. A bigger and better topic would be saying Youngstown's Idora Park will re-open.

Word is getting around even without the marketing. There was a Dragster blurb in today's Travel section of the Toronto-based Globe and Mail, Canada's "national" newspaper.

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.

What difference does it make? The ride is phenomenal, and will definitely receive a lot of patrons, and boost CP's attendance this coming season. That's all that matters. The bottom line is, if you're a CP fan, or you plan to visit, it's almost a given that you're going to visit their website...and if you're coming from a good distance away, you'll find out from brochures, etc.
SFGA2001, I'm not sure why you started this thread, as you answered your own question. In other words, it's pretty darn hard to hide a 420ft. coaster that can be photographed from Lake Erie, vs. a ride that was completely enclosed with no easy access to take pictures of it before it was enclosed. The fact is, people were arguing up to the day that the first people actually rode TR:TR that it wasn't a Giant Top Spin.

Do you think possably the longest line ever may come in contact on opening day?
i dont think its gonna beat the 7 hours of airs opening day! but then again, they were dispatching a train every 7-10 minutes or so
