Diamond Falls & Shockwave at PKD

Have u'all seen this??? Diamond falls is gone.

Diamond falls was a classic! I can't beleive they tore out one of my favorite water rides. I rode this like a million times each time I went there.

Also I heard that Shockwave is gone next season and is being replaced. I liked the ride, it was my first stand-up. It was fun but a bit rough and some people got killed on it. It would be cool if they replaced it with B&M track and trains and used the same color scheme

Well, PKD is my home park and I dislike Diamond Falls being gone too. But you have to understand Diamond Falls was a pretty old ride. It's been there since the earlier eightys.

Shockwave, I hope they don't tear down, it is a little rough but a PKD roller coaster. Maybe they will replace Diamond Falls.

I have no clue whats going on for 2004.

DF is being replaced by a new attraction in 04,no word yet on what that might be.

I've heard the rumors of SW being removed at the end of the season to make way for a possible B&M coaster but with DF already gone & a new ride planned for it's former site in 04 I really doubt that the SW removal rumor is true.

I feel old now. :)

Here's my opinion on the matter...

Diamond Falls - I never really rode this, nor did i have anything against it. Although im a bit dissapointed that it was removed, considering most parks should have one of these.

As for shockwave, i think its time for that thing to go anyway. Maybe it could be considered a good stand-up to some, but its really not worth the hassle. I think PKD really needs a good guest hog to handle its low capacity. And, shockwave, is horrible in that subject.

Hopefully whatever they add, its a capacity hog, because they could sure use one....

Shockwave is the worst. Seriously, that is the only coaster that I really really don't like. If it was the only coaster on this planet I would probably only ride it once a year!

Diamond Falls was removed for unknown reasons to me. I do know that it was rarely running during the 2002 season. I'm really unmoved that it left. I hadn't ridden it for years, and didn't plan to ride it this year either. Something about squishy socks turns me away from it.

Would I like to see Shockwave go? No. Whether its good or bad, its still a roller coaster. I always say how much I dislike it, but I still find myself riding it when the line is short. Its not worth any wait over three trains, but still isn't horrible. It hurts, I know, but you have to know how to prevent the pain. The loop is the only part worth the ride. Sure, if it gets replaced, I won't be all that sad, only if they replace it with a flat or a one trick pony like all the other rides.

I rather see a new ride in Diamond Falls area, that way only one crappy ride was hurt, not two.

I hope they replace Diamond Falls with a Huss Giant Top Spin or Giant Frisbee. Or at least add a Water Ride like Perlerious Plunge
I'll say it one more time in case PKD is still debating on what to add (yeah...right...) PLEASE add a HUSS Delrium (not to be confused with a ride of similar name @ PKI). I think that would absolve PKD in the eyes of the "Hyper-coaster now!" enthusiasts, increase their flat ride selection, AND fill the water ride void created by DF leaving.

It's the rare TRIFECTA!

Since Hypersonic has attracted so much attention to PKD I'm guessing a possable Sky Swatter or Screamin Squireel might make it's way to PKD.

But for an update, Diamond Falls was removed just in the past 3 weeks. Only the ride system was removed. The pool and show building is still there.

As for Shockwave, that's a bad coaster. I nearly bused my ear open on it...

I'm not too crushed about DF being removed. I was generally repulsed by the pool of filthy water just being thrown on people repeatedly. The ride was boring. It was a classic like a trolley ride to the parking lot is a classic. Classics are Evolutions, Zippers, Salt-n-Pepper Shakers, Whips, and Rotors. There are plenty of other more exciting and inviting water rides to be had than this bath tub with a mediocre hill. Sorry if I've ruffled those who enjoyed it. I'm just still a bit bitter from the early days when I saw construction occurring in that area and then seeing what actually arose from the dust as being probably the most unexciting amusement park ride I've ever experienced (besides PKD's Hurler). Maybe if the hill were much taller it would have been better.

I don't see anything wrong with DF leaving, because it was not a popular ride. Shockwave is not one of my favorites, but apart than the headbanging and roughness, it is better than any b&m of that size. It has the best airtime of any steelie in Virginia. But if it going meant a hyper or a big woodie, that would be worth it. I think that a large scale woodie, like Son of Beast or something would really help the park, because all of its woodies are so small. And the best ride there, Grizzly, would hold a much better place if there was a gigantic woodie.

Save LeSourdesville Lake!!! It was the best park ever!!!

They need something thats over 3:00 minutes long and have high capacity.
They need to remove SW & put a nice floorless in it's place, that's something the region is lacking in & there are already two hypers in the region at SFA & BGW but there are no floorless coasters at all &Medusa @ SFGRADV doesn't count because most peeps around here aren't gonna drive 4+ hours to go to a park.

A good mid sized floorless would also be a wise choice because one of their main problems with their recent coaster installations is that they are just too short to justify standing in a 2 hour line, they also need a conventional gravity powered coaster because they've already got 3 launched coasters, that's one too many if you ask me.

I agree. I want to ride a floorless but I don't want the drive. I'm driving out to cedar point this summer, but that park is a little different than SFGRADV. It would be cool to have the floorless come out over the paths so people could look up at the track and maybe evan have those photo spots. Since Kings Dominion is definately the best paramount park, this would attract more people- including me
Diamond Falls was a pretty undistinguished chutes ride, but these things are usually pretty popular with the the GP. I don't know what other issues there may have been.

With Togo out of business and no longer supporting them, all of the Togo standups seem to be pretty much doomed.

I agree, heck I'm surprised that SW has lasted this long what with that fatality back in 99.

SW was the replacement forthe old Galaxy coaster, which was removed following a similar accident in 1983 which resulted in a 13 year old rider being thrown from the train & killed.

Now I am starting to agree with the Shockwave being dismantled. They could use maybe a looper, o like a big stand-up looper better than Riddler's Revenge.

For Diamond Falls, makea Delerim or Tomb Raider type ride.

I looked high and low for a pic of diamond falls....but had no luck. I have never been to pkd, but plan on going this summer.

Does anyone have a pic of diamond falls?

I don't think they'd add another stand up as a replacement for SW,otherwise in the eyes of the park why would they bother removing it in the first place?

Stand up coasters are simply yesterdays news, todays emphisis is more on the floorless or flying coasters that we've seen popping up all over the place in recent years.

Isn't there gonna be some sort of announcement made by the park regarding the 2004 attraction during coastercon? at least that's when I heard the announcement was supposed to be made.
