Developer proposes world's tallest roller coaster for Las Vegas

Posted | Contributed by Alexatucla

The newest attraction on the Las Vegas Strip may not be a new hotel, casino or nightclub but a 650-foot roller coaster. Florida-based U.S. Thrill Rides submitted an application in April to the Federal Aviation Administration for the so-called "Polercoaster." The application is classified as a "work in progress."

So is this actually going to be a 600 foot tall coaster? Or, will it be like the one on stratosphere, where it is a tiny coaster built on top of something else?

I was very disappointed when I saw the stratosphere ride on a roller coaster program. But, I wouldn't go on it. It just doesn't look like it would be any fun.

Ok. I just saw the ride photo, and it does look like a very large toboggan ride. I'm guessing that there would be multiple brake runs on the ride, to slow the ride down on it's decent, otherwise what would keep the trains from reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour.

I just know that I would have to be heavily strapped down to ride a coaster like that. Just the 600 foot height alone would get to me. Though I don't care for the single car design. I'm guessing it would be a long wait to ride, and with the stop at the top of the tower, I'm guessing they would want you to exit, and then re-board, so that people who are already up in the tower can ride down? Seems like a crazy idea.

One time, I was standing in line for the elevator in the Jing-Mao tower in Shanghai (on my Elevators of Jade Panda Dragon Wok East trip) and someone was saying the elevator went 24 MPH! I told him it only went 23 MPH and pulled out my AEE card and it was like a bust! Don't you just hate the GP?

That elevator is definitely top-notch, but I hear that a lot of AEE members don't care for it. Something about the descent being so fast it causes their fanny-packs to swing up and hit them in the face.

Nah, their man-boobs would prevent that from happening.
