I start in the designer and then theme the ride in a workbench downloaded from Coasterbuzz Games. Unless I plan on wrapping some track around a major structure besides the station, then I simply build the whole thing in the workbench or a game.
Another big question is Station or Track 1st? I usually place my station(s), brake run, and lift, then build my station house. I finish the track and adjust to improve ratings before any more themeing is added.

I used a "workbench" - I've created two or three 100 x 100 maps with a goal of building 10 coasters. It's a nice little loophole that lets you build with no worries. I've included a different mix of theming with each scenario. I just load one of those and have a nice big map where I'm free to build however I want at my own pace.

Lord Gonchar, just a suggestion, I think many of the users on coasterbuzz games would love to use those workbenches. Maybe you could upload them to the site?
