Der Wilde Catze BGW lost coaster.

I just did a search at RCDB for BGWs coasters under the operated catagory. I saw 2 coaster the giliisade wich I knew about but also one other coaster. It was called Der Wilde Catze. I was woundering why no one speaks of this ride if anyone has gone on it and if it was any good. Thanks.

When I went two seasons ago, I rode the wild mouse which I believe was called Wilde Mause. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, though, and it was in fact Der Wilde Catze. If so, it's your standard wild mouse.

My mom went when they were there and she said glissade was like the whizzer kind of and the other one was like that to. I belive they were both swarzckophs and were taken out becauseit looked to carnival like. Glissade was were the big bad wolf is.

Der Wilde Katz (or however you spell it) was a Schwarzkopf Wildkat, it was removed along with Glissade to make room for Big Bad Wolf

Welcome one and all, y'all come have a ball!
Things a bear-y fine, ridin' on the old Knott's bear-y line!

Most people don't speak of it probably because it was a typical Schwarzkopf Wildcat like many other parks had around that time.

The "Wildcat" (as we called it when I was a wee lad growing up in VA) was indeed a Schwarzkopf steel wildcat. It was located in the Octoberfest area of the German section of BGW. Actually the concrete pad under the final brakes (just prior to station) on BBW was the exact location where it stood. Also, and I may be incorrect, the queue extension next to that pad may have been the original que building for the Wildcat.

Wildcat was a typical compact Schwarzkopf. It ran about 3 or 4 cars (each seated up to 4 people) at one time. It essentially was like CP's including a terribly abrupt final stop. My friends and I also used to call it the "Ugggggh!" coaster.

It was the third coaster I ever rode in my life. I missed it quite a bit when it was removed. And it dissapeared just a few seasons prior to BBW. There was a distinct time when there was NO coaster in that spot.... at least one season. Literally one year it was there, and the next it was gone without any real reason why. (No immediate signage like "New attraction coming soon" until a year or so later for BBW.) No one really said much about it. Of course in that day, we did not have the privelege of instant park info and behind the scenes scoops like we do now with the internet. So it always remained a mystery. Poof it was gone.

Now, I have always thought it was perhaps portable. And I have often wondered what may have happened to it. I am sure it was probably recycled to some carnival or smaller park. When at BGW, it was black with varying colored cars.

I probably rode it 20 times or so.

About 12 years ago I attended the VA State Fair and there was a Schwarzkopf steel Wildcat there. When I saw it, and rode it, I immediately wondered, and still do, if it was perhaps the long lost BGW Wildcat.

Was it really "Der" Wilde Katze? I do not remember too much German, but I thought the article for Katze, was "Die", not Der.
If it's specifically a male cat I think it would be "der" but yes, the article for cat should be "die" (pronounced De vilda cat za). BGW must have thought otherwise though.

It was kept in good shape. BGW booked it, along with the Glissade as 2 of the fastest steel coasters in the world. That section was pretty congested with the Bumper cars and the Wave Swinger all in the same spot.

My grandmother favored the Glissade more, with the seats and lack of seat belts. I first rode them in 1982. Of course the coasters there are better, but, if I was in the Busch family, in true Oktoberfest fashion would have been to keep a 'portable' looking coaster there, and have one of the newer Arrow's elsewhere in the park.

But, from a revenue standpoint, Oktoberfest has the games and the biggest f/b outlets, so it makes sense to have the action. That park has changed plenty since I first was there in 1978.
