Denver aquarium talking with Six Flags

Posted | Contributed by StealthmF5m3

Ocean Journey, and aquarium complex near Denver, says that it has talked with Six Flags about a possible sale. The aquarium is experiencing financial problems and is exploring its options so that the bond holders who paid for the project can eventually be repaid. Six Flags has no comment about the possible acquisition.

Hey there we go a coaster over the river through the aquarium lobby and back.
Perhaps this would be another SFWOA - South. That would give them more land for a coaster.
I think Six Flags should purchase it, that way it'll be like a mini SFWoA and they can add more rides and coasters.

Where is the aquarium located? Is it near the Park or quite a distance away?
The aquarium is actually very close to the park, it is right across the South Platte River.

Six Flags doesn't want to buy the aquarium, they want to buy the 17 acres near the aquarium. Hope this deal works so that SFEG can maybe get a coaster.

The way I interpret the articles is that the facility itself is on that 17 acres. If the facility wasn't part of the deal, they wouldn't say, "Gamel added that he would personally oppose a sale to any buyer who would not continue Ocean Journey's educational and conservation programs."

The only way they would go away is if the facility was part of the sale to someone not interested in continuing said programs.

Ocean Journey is across the S. Platte river from SFEG itself. The river is not an insignificant obstacle. Any bridge to cross it is going to be a serious piece of hardware. Also, staring across the river at Ocean Journey, it doesn't look like there's much open space surrounding it. Regardless of the outcome of this deal, I think Elitch's expansion is going to have to take place on their own side of the river. And I'm kind of bummed, because they don't seem to have any interest in adding another coaster. We got the Nth copy of a boomerang a couple of years ago, and nothing since.
Maybe they are just considering the future of the land, which is truly very expensive property. But you have to admit, 17 acres is a lot of land, and (hopefully) enough to put new ride(s)in.

Come on coaster......

SFEG last coaster was Boomerang, which was added in 1999. It's 2001, it's time for a new coaster.

Why couldn't they have a coaster span the river. ?
The buy would be great for elitch since it stinks as a park overall. Then the price for admission would be wroth it
I say they build a coaster with a hill right over the river a la' Millennium Force. It could do some stuff in the new property and the jump back over the river and finish the ride in the park!
