Defunct Park in Illinois

Does anyone know anything about a defunct park called Shireland, locaed near Barrington, IL? It can be seen from I-294 I guess it still as a few rides standing but is no longer open. Anyone have any information regarding this park? Thanks for the help.

If its a park in Barrington, its impossible to see it from I-294 considering this tollway is nowhere near Barrington.

But to answer your question, I seriously doubt it. Never heard of this park.

2 superheroes in Gurnee next season? Oh the humanity. :)

It was a theme park based around and featuring the specific breed of "Shire" horses. More like a nature park/circus-like place. No rides, other than maybe a tram & maybe a Merry Go Round. Never been there, but know a bit about it because my Mom is a horse lover. An interesting side note, is that the location of the park is very near to, or possibly even one of the sites that Marriot originally considered for Great America.

I the area of 'exculsive' and 'special' folks... is it 'north, south, lake, hills of ... (etc.) barrington'

The people that live in 'that' area would probably sue over a tilt-a-whirl spin. Sad, but true. No offense, but the 'folks' in Gurnee are much nicer.

Well, if it's near 'Barrington (anything)' it's probably not worth opening. Like total 'lexas yuppie', complain about the color of the sky (cheap butt, dont tip ur delivery people) fodder. Trust me, if it's in (Barrington-anywhere), it's probably a good thing it's closed. This is an area where Markey would probably reside. No offense to anyone of course....

Oh wait, actually I have seen a sign near the corner of I-90 and Rte 20. I believe its a big brown sign that says Shireland with a symbol of a horse on it.

Never really knew what it was though.

Yah, I have read something somewhere about Shireland (and have also seen sign(s)...

Found this tidbit:

"Then it's off in the direction of Wisconsin, via the I-90 tollway. At the Rt. 23 exit, "Shireland" catches our attention; a sprawling theme park that appears to be based on horses. It also appears completely deserted, so we move on. "

Be interesting if anyone (more local to that specific area) has any more information about this.

As a former resident of South Barrington, i'd have to defend my hometown, but um maybe your right Zombie... And joe is definitely correct, Barrington Hills is full of Horse lovers.

Hey I've been there once, it was an ok park with lots of flowers and scenery. The park didn't have a lot of rides but I was only 6 or 7 at the time anyways!
