Defacing of coasters, why???

Why do people do this?  What do they get out of it?  What does it prove?  To me, it proves absolutely nothing.  I can't understand why people would do this.  I was at Great Adventure on Sunday and saw that the restraints on NITRO were either written on or carved into.  I guess it makes you cool to do something like that.  Or at least they think it does.  If they want to deface something, go deface your house, not a multi-million dollar piece of equipment.
I hear ya.  It's a shame.  But remember, some brains only operate as a life support system.
I've seen defacing at The Mind Eraser (SFEG) station and it gets very annoying.

Are people carving their name into something to say that they are cool? The answer is no.

I can't believe people would do that on the restraints of Nitro. The ride is a muli-million dollar machine.

It is a simple animal response like a dog lifting his leg to mark his turf or a tagger spraying their mark.
I like the way MABrider puts it, I never thought of it that way, be he is right. Unfortunatly, this stuff does happen, everywhere. In my mind it doesn't prove anything because I already know it as a fact, but reinforces the fact. This fact is there are some humans who could care less what it is, who's it is, why it is, and what it is for. Too bad they can't figure out those stupid things, especially the what it is for part. If they knew that, they would know it is for them, the paying customer, to ride, not deface.

Hey, SFGAm managment, can I buy a couple cages of Sky Whirl?

I rode "X" and never went upside down.

It probably proves the same thing that smashing out 3 of my car windows proved - that they can get away with something.

A year later and I'm still ticked about the windows.

Well, if some parks had less stacking of trains (note: this isn't a problem with Nitro at all), there would be less time to tag the trains, and the station etc. It's a little hard to write when you're constantly moving! Grafitti has been around for ever and it's not going away anytime soon.

You guys should see Villain's wooden queue line. It's horrible how much writing is on it.

I totally agree!!:):)

I don't understand it either. People are not happy unless they are defacing something! They take no pride in the beauty of a coaster- or anything else for that matter! They enjoy defacing and desroying things and think it's ok to do it, but if you did the same thing to thier things they are ready to kick your butt!!

Very long lines + Bored People + No Line Entertainment = Graffiti. Although, I must say I was utterly shocked when I saw not one bit of graffiti at Silver Dollar City! I don't know if the people respected the park more, or the employees just took more care but it was certainly surprising.

Silver Dollar City does an excellent job of cleaning up graffiti and gum before it gets out of hand. I have noticed a little bit of destructiveness occuring to the artwork that is hanging in the Wildfire station que and it just makes me kind of sad because SDC goes out of their way and bends over backwards to theme their rides only to have punks try and deface them.

You can say that again! That is horrible. SFWoA had a really bad crowd when I went there this year. But then, last year, the people were much better. I don't know why it is so bad in Villain's line. I guess people see all the stuff and they add their own. The park really needs to clean that up.

Bull rides: 83
Shockwave rides: 56

People do this becuase they have no morals, no intelligence, they are very stupid, non caring i.e. they think "oh someone else will clean it up, they get paid for it". These people that vadalize make me want to puke, they  are really nasty people. Their favorite song should be "If I only had a brain".

I ate my universal boot disk..yuk.

seeing crafitie or people who carv things itno the restrents etc. anyone ever get to see medusa opening year after a the first few months? the harnest where carved and all sliced up at the bottom and it looked like someone got hungry and ate the thing. its sicking and somtimes gives me second thouhgts about riding somthing that looks that rag taged.i can understand maybe handmarks in the harnest or worn out marks from people griping onto the restrinets becuase thats normal but the things i seen at some parks makes me sick to my stumich. but then maybe it isent only the park quest? i remember i asked a ride attendent on medusa why was the harnest so chewed up like that and she told me its ride ops with long nails aswell as park quest. but alot of the times its the ops becuase there in a rush to check the seatbelts etc so that could be the case? i just hate seeing a coaster messed up and even worse when a park lets people get away with it.

I'll add that longer wait times end up in defaced stations.  Grafitti was found in ancient Greece and Rome, and people who are "standing around" tend to do stuff like that.  Also,  keeping parks cleaner to begin with would help (for additional info, see BGT's wall of gum on the Tidal Wave).

rollergator - intent on improving the "guest experience" - coming soon to a park near you

On Invertigo @ PGA the paddings on the seats are all ripped out.. i think that people got so scared they bit it off with there hands HAHAH! you should see it hehe
anyone waited on line for Batman the ride at SFGADV? It is a messwalking up the stairs.
We're lucky here at SFMW.  There is nothing on the V2 poles in the station.  No paint anyways.  Everybody scratched it all off.  As to defacing restraints, who is going to know the person who wrote their name on them?  I can tell you I don't know the "Joe Simpson" or "Christine" that wrote their name on it.  Chances are that the people who write their name on things or make special marks won't even remember where they did it.
