Death of Ocean View Amusement Park Movie

I just saw the Death of Ocean View Amusement Park movie. The movie had a girl from the old TV sitcom Soap in it, anyone remember that show, I personally loved it. Anyways, the movie has some cool ride footage of the rollercoaster and several flat rides. It had a round up, Paratrooper, and Ferris Wheel. A friend of mine mailed the movie to me. I know that the movie Roller Coaster was on Wednesday night, but if you can find it, Death of Oceanview Amusement Park is a movie full of footage from Oceanview Amusement park. I saw a movie at the video store recently called Slay Ground, but after I brought it home I found that the tape was broke. Has anyone seen that movie and where is it filmed if you have?

I have another question too. Did they really blow up that roller coaster to make this movie?

Yes. They did infact blow up the Rocket to make the movie. The park closed soon after ROLLERCOASTER was filmed, and the studio who was filming bought the remaining park.

It took 3 trys before the Rocket came crashing down, and they blew out several windows in the local businesses as well.

There is an ACE Magazine on this subject, but you have to be an ACE member to buy it

Even if it was good promotion (movie Rollercoaster), I don't think it was a good idea to have the ride get derailed and kill people. I'll bet Rocket had low ridership for a while ;)What is the story for the Death of Oceanview Park?

The story goes..... Ocean View was a popular seaside park, one night a hurricane passes by, though no damage was done, it shifted the support of the Rocket slightly, which was built above a GAS LINE (Mean Streak is built above a gas line as well)

As the park operates after the storm, the Rocket still continues to shift slightly, until July 4th, the busiest day of the year, when the place is mobbed, does the effect take place, and he tragidy begins!

There is also a cheesy love story as well.

Wow. Maybe we should write to AMC and ask that they put it on.

It was only released for ABC television I believe.

There was a forum on this a while back (within the last year)

Costerbuzz's own Agent Johnson has a copy of the movie, and I offered to give him $$$ to dub it for me....but he is one busy little enthusiast.

There have been a few posters with good stories on this. I can't remember any details, but like john peck said, it took a few tries. There's good info on it on some of the defunct park pages. I found the best stuff by doing the google search for the Rocket. What was it, bulldozers that were the "explosion":).

BTW, I think the Swamp Fox at Myrtle Beach may have a Rocket train, can't remember for sure.

The whole movie is cheesy exept for the song played by the high school band. I love that song now, even though it is a bit out of tune. Man, someone really slapped this one together it seemed to me. Madix is the big star - Scott Conners? is that the guys name? Great ride footage! And John Email me and I'll see if I can arranged for you to get a copy of the movie. Just mail me at:

mmiddleton87@hotmail.com

I have a copy so I'll see if you can get a copy of the original from that other guy that mailed me one. I am sure he will be happy to do it.

The actor you are thinking of is Mike Connors of "Manix" fame.

Hey, Peck, email me your address in Columbus, and I will send you a copy. And for the record, 'enthusiast' is the smallest of the hats I have to wear.
