DDR Region codes?

A good friend of mine is in London for the next couple years and said there is a DDR:UK version. I was going to have him ship me a copy, but he says there is a "region code" which means it will likely not work on our playstation here.

Is this true? I thought it might be a good stocking stuff for my son, but not if he can't play it.

Not region codes, but different versions of the PlayStation. Just like Japanese PS games won't work on North American consoles, European games won't work on NA consoles.

I believe, though, that there are special "swap discs" you can buy to make those European and Japanese games work.

I was thinking about buying one myself so I can purchase the Japanese games. Over there, they have direct translations of all the arcade mixes, and much more...

I have played with quite a few "mod chipped" and "swap disc-ed" PlayStations and really it all depends on how comfortable you are with modifying your PS. Mod chips require opening the PS case (voiding any warranty) and soldering in a chip. If you look online you could find somewhere to buy a chip, and possibly send it to someone to have someone who knows what they're doing solider it up.

Then of course you got the swap-discs. If I remember with the one I played with, there's a cartridge that plugs into the back like the old-school GameSharks, you also have to use a small object to hold down the "switch" that tells the PS that the cover is closed. Basically you start with a disc that is native to NA, then at one point during the PS startup sequence, you switch out that disc with the Japanese/Euro game you wanna play.

I found info about the mod chips, but I'm not sure I want to open up the PS2 and try to solder it in. Thanks for the info!
