DDR for the PS2 Or Xbox?

I never played DDR. But I want to get it for either the Xbox or Ps2. I like the music based games like Mad Maestro and Parap The Rapper so I figure I's like DDR too. I have Xbox Live and the online adaptor for the Ps2 so I could play it with other people online.

My main questions are:

Which would be the best system to pick it up for? Preferably answered by someone who has both systems or played both alot.

Since there are a ton of pads out there which would be the best?

I have them all (US versions), both systems. There's a little $20 thing that let's you use Playstation controllers on the Xbox, so really you can use them for both.

These are the pads I have, and while they've served me pretty well, they're starting to stick a bit on jumps.

I haven't yet bought Xbox Live, but I'm anxious to. I think personally that would be the single greatest DDR experience that doesn't involve an arcade machine.

I'll have to look into those pads. I take it they are a huge step forward compared to the Power Pad Nintendo had 20 years ago!
The best pad out there is cobalt flux. A bit expensive, (around $300) but they rival the arcade pads. http://cobaltflux.com/

(Anyone know how to turn links into words?)

Unless someone is completely obscessed with DDR & must have the best of the best, I'm sure no regular home-user is going to purchase that Cobalt Flux... that's just wrong... I'd rather spend the money on the Steel Batallion million buton X-Box controller!

I, personally, got the official Konami gamepad that came with the game (when buying the combo pack). I think it's better only because I've been boned before by not getting the official product made for the game (see: Dreamcast fishing controllers). It's probably as good as any others out there and has a nice sticky bottom so it doesn't even try to move. If you check now, I dont think you can get the combo pad/game anymore!

I'm hesistant to try the game on X-Box Live, only because you can't tell who's a cheater & who's being honest... honestly, if you wanna cheat, you can use your hands on the pad vs. your feet & probably rule... not to mention that I'm still an amature and just recently got my first AA (which helped unlock my first song... which was some manic song!).

I don't have Ultramix for Xbox, but I've have the other two and have seen the song list for Ultramix, and I'd suggest DDRMAX for PS2 because I think it has the best song selection. Although as others have mentioned, you do get to play on Xbox Live with Ultramix.

The pads I use are BNS-Xtreme pads, around 60 bucks when you include shipping, and just all around great pads, as far as soft pads go.

That's crazy $300 for a controler thats only good for one game.

I think I'll venture to Wal Mart today and see what I can find.

Are all the games basicly the same or are some easier that others?

I just found this one on ebay and it looks awsome for $100.

It's not really that crazy. I think I've played DDR more than any other video game ever, so it's an investment. I spent $150 for my metal pad, and I'm considering getting another from Red Octane soon ($199).

I got my metal pad from eBay, and it's still going strong after almost 1.5 years. But Red Octane offers a 60-day guarantee.. might be worth the extra money.

Coasterpunk, I think the pad you linked to is the new BNS metal pad. I have not played on one myself, but a guy I know recently got one from eBay and said that it is a very high quality pad, worth the money. Next to CobaltFlux, RedOctane is probably the highest quality pad you'll find, but they are significantly more expensive than other pads, and a lot of other pads (not all though) are just as reliable.
I think I'll try a cheaper pad first. I figure I can upgrade later. I can't see spending over $100 for a pad and a game I never played before. I'd feel like a dumbass spending a ton of money and not liking the game and having it collect dust.
A cheap, soft pad should suit you just fine if you're just starting out. If you pick up a PS2 game, I'd suggest getting the MAX2 bundle, for the soft pad it comes with is very good quality as far as soft pads go.

I have a Cobalt Flux and I must say it is absolutely worth EVERY PENNY. The quality is amazing and I'd say it's just as good as any arcade pad I've ever played on.

I finally bought it. I picked up Ultramix for the Xbox. It was the only one I could find with the pad and I looked everywhere. Boy do I suck at it too. I have no eye foot coordination whatsoever. Maybe someday I'll get good enough to play it on Live.
