DDR Etiquette

It's fun to help people who have never played, but it's not fun when someone tries to help you, when you know better.

Last week, I was trying to play, and every time I'd pick a song, this kid tried to get me to play on 1.5x. He kept telling me it was easier and that I'd do better, etc. etc. I knew everything he was saying, but I didn't want to do 1.5x, it's cheap. But he wouldn't shut up.

I think I know who you're talking about anyway. Personally, even with all the machines in Columbus, I HATE playing there because there are a total of maybe 3 regulars I have met in the area that I can stand for any amount of time. My favorite DDR scene is definitely the Pittsburgh scene, even though I'm probably biased since that's the scene where I started, and I'm now one of the "old-schoolers" and everyone in that area knows of me and my accomplishments. (I was the first regular person in the area to pass Drop Out Maniac, first to A (4th mix A, full combo) In the Navy Maniac, first to pass In the Navy Maniac doubles...all ages ago, over a year ago I'd say)

Hmm. Well, I know nothing of the "scene" in Columbus or any city, I just play and try to ignore most of the people there with me. But I've found most of the kids (high schoolers, jeez I'm old) at the bowling alley to be tolerable, friendly and even encouraging.

Thought I'd throw in my two cents worth on this one.

There's nothing I hate more than some asshole coming in and trying to act like they're a DDR god, constantly trying to usher me off the machine (sometimes before I'm even done with all my songs) and then playing something like 3 or 4 foot songs. There's nothing I love more than challenging them and either having them turn me down because they're scared or take the challenge and get destroyed.

I play DDR for fun, and a vast majority of the people I've met when I've played have been friendly and encouraging, whether they're better than I or still building they're skills on less difficult songs. I always treat these people the same way they treat me. But every now and then, somebody comes along that's just gotta learn some respect...

They say music can alter moods and talk to you, but does it load a gun up for you and cock it too?
