DDR-deprived areas.

I went into one of my local malls this morning to try to find an accessory for my cell phone.

This particular mall (The Kanawha Mall) is let's say, less than exciting (as most of them are nowadays) and has little traffic, even on weekends.

Anyway, I walked by the so-so arcade and low and behold......a brand spankin' new DDR! Mega Mix I believe it was called. Oh HAPPY DAY! :-D

I wanted to cry. I was SO happy! Needless to say I forgot about shopping and sunk about $10 into the machine right away. SWEET!

This is the only DDR machine near me. According to DDR Freak there are now 4 machines in WV, but there SHOULD be more. The next closest machine to me would be about 40 minutes away.

My question is, how many of you live in areas that do not have any arcades/parks with DDR or live in an area where it hasn't quite caught on yet? When I go on my trips the machines seem to be all over the place.......everywhere, especially Ohio and PA.

The PS2 and Xbox versions do not sell as well here as other areas, and I am slowly trying to get people to give it a try.

I consider myself fortunate to live within 20 minutes of four Extremes, a 5th mix and a 4th+. However they are going away quickly - there used to be at least three more.

BTW, Megamix is a bootleg. It's basically just like Extreme, only (I hear) you can't access unlockable songs (like Sakura, Legend of Max or Xenon) and the freeze arrows and menu screens look weird.

I live within 10 mintues of 3 Extreme machines.

Also headed to the beach for the next week, and the local arcade/amusement park has 2 Extreme machines! :)

(BTW, Fantasy Island Amusement Park, Beach Haven NJ)

For the longest time I was really mad because the only time I could play DDR in the arcades was when I went to Cedar Point, but then I found Swings n Things which is a little bit closer, but now I hear they have it at the mall like 10 min away from my house. And I just ordered a metal pad from ebay.

Enjoy the rest of your day here at America's Rockin' Rollercoast, Cedar Point! www.thepointol.com
I would happen to be one who doesn't have a DDR machine within 1 hour from where I live. The odd thing is, that everyone at my school plays it. It sells out all the time at the local video game stores. I'm hoping one will pop up around here soon, but its unlikely it will happen.

Oh forgot to say, the nearest machine around is at a GameWorks... so I'm stuck with my PS2. :\ *** Edited 8/28/2004 1:21:22 AM UTC by Rich_Johnson***

Northern Bay area seems to be pretty good. A mega mix, a 7th, and an 8th all withing 20 minutes.

New Jersey on the other hand (near Great Adventure) is really sparse. In fact, I don't even know what the closest machine to me it. Anyone know?

DDR Freak is pretty up-to-date on machine locations.

At my job they are currently doing a study on DDR and how it affects children's health. I don't know the details but it's a fitness thing they are trying to promote. I told them they should be careful promoting it as "fitness" to kids as most kids seemed to be turned off by that......just let them have fun.

The director of the study bought an Xbox, pad, and the game to try out for herself and she is more addicted than I am now. lol.

Eventually they want to see DDR machines in the schools, YMCA's, and fitness centers all over the state. Now THAT is tax money well spent for once!

Maybe Camden Park will get one as well. ;-)

I'm screwed right now as far as DDR is concerned.

My metal pad needs some new wires, the internet cafe downtown just had BOTH of it's 1 1/2 month old Cobalt Flux's Broken(BTW, I was going to go there tonight before I found out), and there's no machine within an hour of my house. :(

The good news is that I just found out that the other internet cafe that had(now in storage)a DDR machine is moving to a closer-to-me location. :)

Chattanooga needs a ITG2 Machine!
I live in the Canton Ohio area and the malls just have not caught on. I believe the closet one to my house is at Geauga Lake - but that's like a 45 minute drive. Anyone else in the same area as me and wishing a mall would add a machine?
I'm in Cali...it's hard NOT to find a DDR, here. ;)

yeah i still step on those stupid arrows... ...so what? >_>

Have not caught on or have moved passed it? I've seen more than my share of machines move on to a better place and I don't think I've seen any new places near me get any...

This one I was talking about earlier has not caught on at all. Actually, I think I am the only one using it. lol!

This particular mall is VERY dead though, so that's no surprise. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved it downtown (or to my house.....lol!)
