The gondolas have been unwrapped, new Mickey face adorning the face of the coaster wheel.
It looks great. However, looks like they've given the queue area the pink slip. Hopefully it's only temporary so that they can get the attraction open by the May 8 deadline and in time for summer crowds.

Nice pictures. It looks much more colorful and cheery. I especially like the character faces on the gondolas, reminds me of old Disney cartoons.
I do hope that queue is only temporary.... but I have a feeling it's not.
We have yet to see what the signage is going to look like, maybe that will improve things a bit.
I like the new colors and paint. Quite an improvement. Now if only they'd get of that S&S Tower that looks more and more out of place.
Talk about old school. When can we expect Steamboat Willie: the Ride?

That's what I thought, but lately I've been hearing the removal of the Mailboomer is on the back burner. Which makes it easy to shove off the stove.
I think the wheel looks great. I'd rather they cut a corner on the queue than the E tickets planned. The remaining theming in the area will still have that wonderful victoian theme. I'm just hoping Silly Symphony Swings end up somewhere close to the concept are.
Anybody see some of the newly installed spigots for the World of Color? Looks like there will be a LOT! Cool. I think I'll start a rival site called Spigotbuzz, portal to the squirt. :)
That sounds dirty.

^^I thought removal of the S&S towers was part of the makeover plans. kRaX...?
Yup. It was.
However, it looks like it won't happen until phase 2 (yeah! there's a phase 2!) of the DCA face-lift/expansion. We're looking at 2011 and later.
Ugh Mali-boomer is such an eyesore.
Even though it's an amusement ride, I think the park will look better without the tower. It takes away from the classic look created by the coaster (fake wood, but still looks like wood) and the Ferris wheel.
DCA doesn't currently have that many good rides. I would think that removing the Maliboomer would not be a very good idea. Maybe if they have more good rides 2 years from now, it would not matter as much if they remove something.
My mother (1946-2009) once asked me why I go to Magic Mountain so much. I said I feel the most alive when I'm on a roller coaster.
2010 total visits: SFMM-9, KBF-2
2010 total ride laps: 437
It's going to have a few more good rides added in upcoming seasons, ones that will absolutely humiliate a standard S&S Tower when it comes to theming and immersion. And I never really thought about how DCA has TWO drop rides (not to mention how one is so awesome compared to the other!)
What's the other one?

Oh yeah. Why is Maliboomer still around? ;)

A YouTube video showcasing the high-tech (and super trippy/hypnotizing) LED lighting schematics on Mickey's Fun Wheel.

Hopefully it will play a part in the lighting effects for the World of Color show.
