DCA v. KBF

I am surprised not many people have made the comparision between Disney's California Adventure verses Knott's Berry Farm and their themes. Disney boosts DCA as a unique park the represents the greatness of California. They also act like they are the first park to ever dedicate a park themes to California. Just down the street is Knott's Berry Farm, which has been open for many more years than DCA that has California themes all throughout the park. For example, the Boardwalk represents the California beach town beach life and Ghost Town represents the Gold Rush and mining town in the 1840s and 1850s (Calico is a real ghost town in California, not just a made up ghost town for Knott's).
Knott's Berry Farm shows what California is really about in a better way in my opinion, however DCA is themed using other aspects of California (to an extent) that also makes the park unique.
I don't think that DCA is a big threat to Knott's. Knott's has much better stuff than DCA. Now that they're owned by Cedar, Magic Mountain should watch out. Knott's is building thrill rides like crazy and I cant wait to see what they replace Windjammer with. *** This post was edited by timbobarry on 4/25/2001. ***
I can see the comparison as well KBF all the way. If you want theming I would pick DCA. Paradise Pier has great theming! It looks awesome. I love the theme for COndor Flats and Grizzly Peak regions. Hollywood is not bad either. But Knotts Ghost Town is amazing. THe best western town ever. I do like Fiesta Village, it is an nice vibrant theme. Knotts boardwalk is pathetic theming wise. I like the music, but everything else it is still half Roaring 20's and half boardwalk. For rides Knotts is much better. Supreme Scream is much better than Maliboomer. CA is nice but can't compare to ghostrider. Mulholland Madness has never really worked and has caused people pain, so you might compare it to windjammer. But anyway, Knotts has sooo many more rides and a better all around selection. But I really like the prices at Knotts. At DCA they are crazy and are looking to make sure it is like RCT where every guest leaves with no money. At Knotts it is more laid back. All shops are there, but it feels like there is less pressure to spend your money. Knotts has more rides for the kids too. Overall, Knotts is MUCH better than DCA, but I have respect for both parks.

Home Park: Knotts Berry Farm!
but also Disneyland and DCA
See what KBF was like in the 3rd month of operation and then tell me which is better. (my stupidity erased) And no matter how bad DCA is, it will get a lot more business than KBF, only big because of it's easy access as a DL side trip. Trade it spots with SFMM and see if it gets half the business.

I agree that Knott's is a great place, but DCA has some great rides and one kickin coaster in California Screamin. I like that ride a lot. Sure, it's not better than Ghostrider, but it delivers some good g's along with some airtime. DCA has it's pros and cons, just as Knott's does. I like Knott's for the thrill rides like Ghostrider and Supreme Scream, but I like DCA a lot for what it has to offer: California Screamin, Soarin Over California (which is the best attraction in the park imo), Grizzly River Rapids and the most awesome Animation building. I think given some time, DCA will turn out to be a great park. As for the thrill market in Southern Cali, Knott's should focus their attention on SFMM and get an awesome coaster to combat Deja Vu, X and Goliath. Just my opinion on the matter. Peace. :)

Medusa at Marine World: the best coaster in the west!
I agree that DCA certainly has potential for the future, with some E-TIcket ride rumors all around. But for now i will still go with Knotts. I agree with Koaster King when he says that SFMM's location brings it down some. Obviously it is worth the trip, but most parks could not survive in the Valencia hills..all alone..

We can probably do without you referring to others' posts as stupidity. Thanks.

Knott's wins hands down. DCA pretty much stinks.

Yep, comparing a two month old and a decades old park is actually the smart thing to do. Thanks Jeff for promoting the comparisons. It was rather fun. I'm glad to know we can do it more often. :) BTW, putting all the factors together, DCA is the better park.
I don't like them both.
