David Dean, owner of former Joyland in Lubbock dies of cancer

David Dean, a longtime co-owner of Lubbock's Joyland Amusement Park in Lubbock died on Monday following a battle with cancer, his family confirmed. The park closed in 2022 and briefly appeared to have an interested buyer.

On two occasions when I was at Joyland David took time to visit with me. On the first visit he gave me a Joyland cap. It was obvious that he took a strong interest in operating a good amusement park. When I saw him just about a year ago I had no idea that Joyland would be closing and more significantly that David's life would end.
