Dateline

I saw a Dateline special on Coaster Safety Regulation and this problem is really starting to bug me. First off, the media has to stop whining about how coasters kill people. It is not the main coaster parks fault that smaller rides have bad safety records. It is the small time parks or those moving carnivals. We just got one near my house and I am not planning to go on any of those rides soon. Isn't it true that the larger parks don't have nearly as much accidents as smaller parks? But it is true that states should have safety laws and some don't. But they really lied about the whole G forces thing. They said 6.5!!!! Now first off I don't know of anything with that much G force. They also went on to say it was "more G force than a NASA astronaut", well a nasa astronaut pulls 3 something G for like a minute!!! We might pull 6.5, but that is like for a nano second!!!! I know this little measly post isn't going to do anything I just want to keep everybody aware, coasters keep getting attacked!!!!! Stupid media.

Amen! The stories are explainable. After the legitimate news stories from the unfortunate deaths last year, Dateline and other "news programs" decided to milk the accidents for all they were worth since there is no real news out there for them to report. And Rep. Mackey is an idiot and grossly missinformed. I would like to see the ride that pulls 6.5 G's.

Did you know that there was about 1000 more TV realted injuries last year than amusment things(a small portion being amusment park rides.
The show, I thought, really didn't talk about what I've been reading on the net. The show was mainly about implementing laws requiring carnivals and amusement parks to report injuries. I don't have a problem with that at all. If they do, however, try to limit height, speed, G's, or anything else that will restrict the progress of thrillrides, then I will have serious issues about that.
Well, WildOne, I posted this in another thread, but here is some "proof" Taz's Texas Tornado does pull 6.5 G's. (Unsustained of course) It has rounder (Schwarzkopf) loops, which offer higher G forces.

I think carnival rides should be subjected to regular safety inspections, but the jump from that to roller coaster regulations is just not a valid logical argument. It's just easier to get public attention showing a huge coaster rather than the teacups and the tilt-a-whirl.

I did not know that TTT pulled 6.5 G's. No wonder the German Ride operators had to sell it. Germany will not allow rides with more than 4 G's of force.

All I was happy about, was seeing a Mantis POV and other CP rides in action.
WildOne, sorry if I came off a bit arrogant in my last post. It was not intended that way. I had posted before stating that I thought it had 6.5G's, but I just recently found that stats page with the actual numbers. I wonder what that feels like. I really want to ride that Texas Tornado myself. Too bad its 1000 miles from home.
No problem.

I have learned not to trust Datline... (The story that I am going to tell is complety true)

Set up: A husband and wife get into an argument about his mistress and ends up killing his wife..

Now the coaster part of it.. (mind you this was on Datline)

To make this guy sound Really Really Really bad dateline said That he took his mistress to Paris. They then showed a pic. of them in front of the Effel Tower.

I am studing French. So I wanted to see if I could see any famous landmarks besides the tower. I started looking in the background and I insantaly saw VORTEX (@ PKI)! I couldn't stop laughing for like 20 mins.. They showed that. like 10 more time... by then I had called some of my friends to have a witness! All of them started laughing too.

Just thought you guys might want something to laugh at! I know I did!
