Dash to BOULDER DASH

Friday, June 16, 2000 9:47 AM
Just got home from a 10 state/3100 mile rollercoaster riding vacation. Loved MF, SOB and all three versions of S:ROS. THE BOSS, LEGEND, LIGHTNING RACER and VILLAIN blew me away as well, as did SUPERMAN; ULTIMATE ESCAPE...BUT... The greatest thrill of all was BOULDER DASH at Lake Compounce. What a perfect experience! The combination of concept, setting, speed and fun is unbelievable. Roaring through the woods on a boulder filled mountainside is hard to beat! The station crew was top notch and obviously VERY proud of their new baby! What a great idea and what a great ride!
I urge everyone to get out there if you can, it's just a wonderfully unique coaster, worthy of great accolades!
Having said that, I'm just thrilled to be living during the new Golden Age of Coastering! Have fun, guys!

We'll I'm glad to hear that from someone other than myself!!I thought my opinion of boulderdash was maybe a little prejudice. You see Lake Compounce is 1/2 mile from my house and I have 16 trips on this beauty already, including the front seat on the 3rd car out on their special grand opening day.Do I sound proud of this coaster? You bet, this is a work of art and the ride is unbelievable. If you like airtime this ride is for you.The seats fit you snugly and you are able to ride the entire ride with your arms raised. Great Job!!! *** This post was edited by Michael Noon on 6/16/2000. ***

Just another example of how do you don't need to set records or license comic book properties to build some of the greatest rides ever!

I agree, Boulder Dash looks like a true winner. I just got back from a ride on the Ghostrider, a great ride with no records or corprate sponsors, just a great ride.

Gotta ride 'em all!

I agree. Even with my somewhat limited track record, Boulder Dash tops my woodie list. The variety of elements, types of airtime, laterals, and most of all the setting make it a completely unique roller coaster. I love how the small park managed to build a great new coaster without really using any space. If they hadn't come up with that incredible coaster, there's no way that space would have been used for anything else.

Either I had glue on my bum or I hit the ride on a bad day - I got zero airtime in both the front and back seats! Does this thing run better later in the day?

I liked the setting, the concept, and the speed, but unfortunately previous threads like this one meant that I was expecting too much, and I could only be disappointed! And the high pitched screaming kids on the ride didn't add to my enjoyment either!

Out of all the parks I've visited so far this year (see below), Lake Compounce was least favorite!

I was a bit disappointed with Boulder Dash when I rode it a few weeks ago. It wasn't bad or anything but it didn't live up to the #1 coaster in the world ranking in my estimation, or come anywhere close. The park doesn't stay open late during the week so I was unable to get night time rides in, which is when the wooden coaster usually shines.

I'm sure you've ridden both, right?

Anyways, if you're an airtime fanatic, or just looking for an awesome ride by day or night,
than yes, Boulder Dash *is* better than MF.

I need to get back to The Lake to ride Boulder Dash in the dark. When we visited last year they closed at 8pm. I heard it really comes alive then. Day rides are great too.

Seeing all the Six Flags parks you visited, I find that hard to believe. :)

Well it was close for SFWOA, but since I got a seasons pass for $54.99, they were better value for money.

Lake Compounce was $25.95 and they've only got 27 rides, and how dare they charge $5 parking for that gravel pit?

Boulder Dash #1? Maybe after Shivering Timbers, Texas Giant, CI Cyclone, Tremors, Ghostrider, Phoenix and others (list is in no order). IMO

Boulder Dash #1 in Connecticut. :)

-------------
Tremors, my 100th coaster.
Ghostrider, ridden over 100 times.
