Darien Lake coaster marathon to benefit Habitat for Humanity

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady and Genesee Counties in New York will conduct a rollercoaster marathon fundraiser called "Coastin’ 4 Homes" at Six Flags Darien Lake on Friday, June 25, 2004. Twelve riders are participating and will collect pledges/donations ahead of time. Marathon participants will be riding Superman: Ride of Steel. Two riders at a time will brave Superman’s 205-foot, 72 mph drop. Each rider will ride for approximately two hours during the day. The funds raised will be based on the total number of rides completed by the group during the day. Proceeds from the event will be split evenly between the two Habitat for Humanity affiliates. If you have any questions about the marathon or would like to make a pledge/donation, please contact Wade Abbott, at C4H@nycap.rr.com.

Will they even last two hours with the new restraints?

Riding a good coaster for a good cause... neat idea.

LOL, good one! theyre not that bad, I rode SFNE one a few days after it reopened
Just 2 hours? Thats wimpy! I was expecting like 10 hours plus! God, all I do when I go to SFNE is ride SROS all day.
10 hours?

oh the humanity!

SFDL Dude... I love the pun!

I wish we could ride for 10 hours straight! Superman is one of my favorite coasters. I wanted to get a bunch of people involved without hogging a complete train for the day. The park was gracious enough to reserve two seats for us, and I came to the conclusion that 12 riders would be enough for a "bunch" and still let each rider enjoy multiple rides on Superman.

Come on out and see us if you're in the area. It should be fun.
