Darien Lake announces MotoCoaster for 2008. The park says the new coaster will be the first of its kind in the United States. The Zamperla ride will launch from zero to 40 mph in less than two seconds.

The only way it's going to be the 'first of its kind' is if it opens before the one in Knotts.

Video looks like a fun ride, but name could be a little more original than its factory-title... and hopefully it'll be repainted when re-assembled.

It launches from 0-40 in less than two seconds, but we still felt the need to put the video in fast forward. :)
They FINALLY get something new!

Duane from RCDB made an interesting comment at No Coaster Con. He said, Darien Lake is buying a new coaster, rather than using the coaster from Astroworld sitting accross the street. That doesn't bode well for the old Astroworld coaster.
Does Darien Lake own that coaster or does Six Flags own that coaster?

Darien Lake does. Batman came with the parks sale last year.

It'll be a cool addition, not nearly enough but its a good start. I'm interested to see how next season plays out.

Perhaps they wanted something unique and original. But then, I would think that they would want to name it something unique and original. Maybe they will use it next year or sell it and use the funds for something really cool.
They could easily get six figures for the scrapMaybe buy a couple GCII trains for what would be a great coaster with them Predator.Chuck*** This post was edited by Charles Nungester 1/22/2008 10:56:50 PM ***

They could easily bring in 6-figures (in the long run) with the addition of the Batman coaster...

I say install the batman coaster, get new trains... market it as new & fantastic, reep in the benefits of profit... then use some of those profits for new Predator trains & a whore out the refurbishing to a new 3rd party.

Maybe the old AstroWorld coaster could be re-worked to use sit-down trains? Not sure, but I do know I'd take a *pass* on building that. The first year it appeared up there, a couple mechanics were telling us how great their "new stand-up coaster" was going to be...I told them it was anything BUT great when it was in Texas...LOL!
Could Batman be going soimeplace else?
Batman the Escape was absolutely terrible. The layout is great, but there's no give in those earpads at all. And there's a reason the station was enclosed at Astroworld--when at Great Adventure the ride ops had to wear earplugs because it was so damn loud.

So Walter and Claude haven't tamed down the noise factor much since then, but their tracks tend to be further away from the stations. The only ride I've seen ride ops wearing earplugs on lately is Flight of Fear at KI or KD.
