Has anyone ever seen this roller coaster called the Cyclone that was in Ontario in the 1940's. It had 80 degree banking. It horrified people back then. People came to the park just to watch! No one rode it. Now its been torn down. I was watching something on the Travel Channel about it.
Does anyone else know of this coaster?

Ah, Roller Coasters.
An hour wait for a two minute ride.
Ah, yes... The Crystal Beach Cyclone! (Harry Traver) Badnitrus has a wonderful rendition of this coaster on his website (in our database). Just watching the computer animation, I can just feel the rib fractures!
Also, if you type that in the search function, you should find more posts about it

Actually, Badnitrus doesn't have the POV rendering on there anymore (s/he is working on an updated version). However, the stills are still there and they look awesome. I'm going to use those pics to try and make an RCT replica...I bet noone rides it =]
Badnitrus is he, Badnitrus is awesome.
And if the site in the database here isn't updated, it's at
http://badnitrus.danimation.com I know you guys are good here, but just makin sure cause his site is moved. :)
And make sure you check out his Talon rendering. :)

The structure of the CB Cyclone lives on as the Comet at Great Escape. Herbert Schmeck redesigned it in the late 40's on the original site. Check out my pic it's from on the Comet at Great Escape.
I built a Cyclone in RCT a while back. It had hign intensity but people rode it.

It is the Comet, just after it was the Comet. It is the only roller coaster to be built three times in three different forms at three parks.

The Crystal Beach Cyclone looks like it would be a wicked steel coaster. It looks pretty intense for a woodie. How about an Arrowbatic replica? That would be sweet.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
All of Traver's Cyclones were operational and maintainance nightmares. They REALLY beat up the riders and shook themselves to pieces. The design far outstretched the technology of the day.
I believe the best canidate to rebuild one of these has to be GCI. They have the twister style down perfect. Only if a park would would want a remake of these old terrors.

I totally agree, coasterpunk!! When I was at SFMW, looking at the first drop of Roar, I was thinking GCI can easily rebuild the CB Cyclone. Obviously, it would not have the same physical impact on the riders, or it would be a real waste of time and money.
With modern technology of design and physcis, yadda, yadda: the CB Cyclone WILL someday return.

So you want a coaster in your backyard? I hope you have a big backyard.
Speaking of Cyclone, I've heard and read stories about CP's Cyclone. It was where Disaster Transport is now from 1929-1950. It was supposedly a wicked coaster. A friend of my father's said as a kid he and his brother would count how many people came off the ride with bloody noses! Does anyone know anything about this? Anyone still have any first hand memories?
