CP's Coaster Count

SFGAm is my home park. There really is nothing to worry about considering what other parks are around it?

"Well I agree with you on one thing, they are one of the best parks, however it is far from the best. Actually it's close to being the third or fourth second highest coaster count, with PKI having 13 and SFGAm having 12. Also most people think that MIllenium Force is just an awesome drop. So what's the big deal of a park with just one drop on one roller coaster."
Wow. So much BS crammed in such a small post. How do you do it? ;) IMO, you're way off on thinking that "most people think that MF is just an awesome drop." Take a poll (or, better yet, check a poll someone has already taken). MF is WAY more than one drop. Like olympic already said, it's obvious from your comments that you haven't been on the ride (you track record also confirms this).

That being said, I concur with many posts already that coaster count is mostly meaningless. Not only will most of the GP not know the facts, but even more of them won't ever go to SFMM. I think it's actually refreshing that CP is not building some stupid little kiddie coaster (no, I'm not implying anything about Goliath, Jr. - or am I? ;) so they can "keep the record".

Also, isn't having a great park next door pretty healthy? It will bring many people in who would not normally be at the park. For example, there's little excuse not to make the pilgrimmage to Ohio considering you can hit 3 great parks (well, at least one great park and two good ones :)).
They're not building a little kiddie coaster, because they already have one.

SFMM needed a kiddie coaster so that was probobly their best idea this year. It's not just to win a record, but to make it a better park. I applaud thee.

I agree with Lothar (of the Hill People, is it?) that the count is meaningless. Look at BGW... it easily gets my personal award for "Park I Most Want to Visit Again." They only have five coasters.

What CP should do, instead of spending 30 million on their next big coaster, thay should save the Idora wildcat, Idora Jackrabbit, and the Americana Screechin Eagle, and while they are at it they should remove the head rests from Blue Streak. This would cost less than MF and put them #1 on the most coaster list, and they would have FOUR CLASSIC COASTERS. No one would doubt CP being the king of coasterdom. They would have the best wood, the best steel, they would be the best. I find it hard for CP to be #1 without a classic coaster. They would be highly praised for saving three SBNO coasters and make a lot of Ohioans very happy. Kennywood dosen't even have four classic coasters.

It would be nice for PKI to easily buy the Screechin' Eagle and the Idora Jack Rabbit and Wildcat will most likely never be saved. It would be the wood coaster lovers paradise. Add a CCI airtime machine a la Shivering Timbers in the and the WCCotW would be in stone.

Coasting_Ohio: How would such an expensive project make the park any money? Aside from the fact that the Idora coasters wouldn't be much good for anything other than fire wood, how would those rides bring in more guests and make the park more money?

Remember... parks are a business, not a charity.

How about this, they keep building them, we keep riding them. Enough of this debate and just enjoy the fact the parks continue to add to the coaster lovers hunger!!! Where else in the world can you find such a huge collection of thrill machines than the USA? Who cares what part of the US or which park is building more, as long as it gives the coaster lovers more thrills to experience. Nuff Said!!

"Any idiot park manager can throw coasters up just to say you have the most...*Magic Mountain*...but CEDAR POINT does NOT do that! Instead, they look for what is NEW, INNONOVATIVE, and Creative...not to mention...MASSIVE RECORD-BREAKERS!"

Last time I checked, I don't remember seeing any Arrow 4D coasters in my neck of the woods. So I think that whole new, innovative, creative thing goes right out the window.

We should just be glad that we have two parks that are willing to build rides of great quality in massive quantity. SFMM has shown their creativity by opening what was the world's tallest coaster (for a little while), the world's tallest stand-up coaster, and now trying out a 4D (not to mention that it'll be a 200-footer). CP opened the world's first 300 footer (and again, the tallest at one time), not to mention former record holders like Mantis, Raptor, Magnum, Gemini, and so on.

I haven't yet been fortunate enough to ride the Force, but it sure doesn't look boring to me. Whether you like the layout or not, the layout is only one factor of many in coaster enjoyment. I only hope that I'll be able to take a spin on it soon.

Do the Mountain and the Point care about one another? Probably not a whole lot, as Jeff and co. have reiterated many times. The two company's other parks (SFWOA and KBF) are probably more on the minds of executives. I wish people would quit worrying about the damned numbers so much and instead just go enjoy the rides.

Okay, for once, I just want to say for all the people who keep posting about the whole CP vs. MM and then just plain CP bashing or MM bashing or talking about every flaw in one park and every diamond in the other, Shut up. I am so tired of hearing people make up an imaginary fued between the two parks just because they are mad.

Cedar Point is considered the number 1 park. Get over it. Stop whinning because it is the park that usually ranks number 1. Maybe because of X, MM will be number 1 but lets wait and see.

For the people who still start these posts knowing where they will head, "You are the weakest link, Goodbye"

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.
I didnt Know SFMM needed a kiddie coaster i thought Canyon Blasterwas one, i must be wrong since i have inly been there 100 TIMES.
And yes the GP out here does know what Cedar Point is so stop saying that jeff. And how does 13, 12 coasters tie Cedar Points 14 coasters, hmmmmmm. Also yes these parks do care about Records. Why else would CP build a eleven world record breaking coaster, and then dispute SD2000's cliam? And Magic Mountain cares be cuase now there running adds saying this"What park has the most unique coasters in the world. Zoom in on viper. What park dared to bring you four new coasters in two years. Zoom in on X, then fade to Goliath. Big Bold letters Saying Magic Mountain, Now the Xtreme Park.
Edit
And Magic Mountain doesnt care about KBF, they care more about Disneyland,
If you were a major Park would you be scared of a park that is just starting to take off or the Park that started it all. hmmm hard choice. *** This post was edited by Intaminrocks on 4/22/2001. ***
Intaminrocks,
There is very little debate about it. After Deja Vu and X open, SFMM WILL have the record for most coasters in a park. The S:TE not being a coaster thing is grasping, but even if not counted, it'd be very hard to argue that the two parks aren't at least tied in the coaster count.
SFMM did need another kiddie coaster. They're trying to improve the park's appeal, and many major resort destinations (including CP) have at least two kiddie coasters. It's just their way of improving their demographic...
PKI has four kiddie coasters all some of the best and most unique. And they're obviously not there for an easy way to the record as they put in intense theming to the newest addition and all of the lines are long for kiddies.

Intaminrocks, did you forget what CP's 13th coaster was? Allow me to refresh your memory, it was a kiddie coaster, and they already had one called Jr. Gemini. See any parallels?

Most of the CP/SFMM thing all comes down to personal preference anyway. Lots of people site "the CP atmosphere" that SFMM lacks. Personally, I didn't notice it. I find the atmosphere pretty much the same at the 2 places. Best atmosphere (in my book) goes to Holiday world, and they have only 3 coasters, one of them a kiddie.

HW does have excellent atmosphere, but I would give the best to BGW followed by WDW and IOA. I can't help but be immersed into the weather, theming, cleanliness, etc. Those are my dream parks come true.
