CP Water Rides - Worth it?

I'm planning my trip to CP and I was thinking of going early in the season to avoid lines.  I'm going to miss out on all the water rides, but the lines are going to be overall shorter (that is if it's anything like SFGAm.)  My question: am I missing out?  Should I wait so I can enjoy all the rides?  Thanks for your imput.

-Patrick

no your not missing out on anything much. just think, if you don't ride those rides, you'll be able to spend more time riding coasters
If it's warm enough, You should ride Snake River Falls and White Water Landing. WWL doesn't get you very wet, but on SRF you can get pretty soaked...depends on where you sit. And finally, Thunder Canyon...only go on this if you really want to get wet and it's hot out, because you get absolutely drenched.

Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

If you dont want to get as wet as you would on thunder canyon I suggest diving head first into lake erie you'll come out drier than if you ride  thunder canyon

now back to your question, every year I've been there in may, the first operating week ,all the water rides were open  but if its cold/windy  you may regret riding them

We'll I've been on all the water rides at SFGAm a dozen times.  I figure they are probably similar.

john - The lines are alot shorter that time of year right?  I mean besides the fact that we are all going to be getting twisted wickedly :)

White Water Landing is one of my favorite rides at Cedar Point! There's hardly ever a line, and if there is one, it moves quickly.

The ride it's self is a little boring in the beginning, but that final drop gives you that "Free Floating" feeling! It's hard to find that anymore these days... I would definitly recommend riding that ride. You won't get very wet at all, and it is lots of fun. :)

Yes the lines are shorter especially if its cold   but the secret is out  about low crowds those first few weeks of weekday operation now. So the park itself isnt as empty during the week in May as it was the first few years after magnum was built             unless its physics day  which caught me  in 2000

then every teen from the whole  mid west will be there

Booya! I'll be there. I coaxed my Physics teacher into havings us go. I don't care if there are long lines, I just want to get back to the Point.

You poor sole, I feel bad for you.

Lines in Frontier Town aren't what they used to be... but then again I think CP likes it that way. It provides a major walkway for traffic and a place to just chill for some of the older folk. Most people will just use it to get from Millennium Force to Gemini, and maybe hit Cedar Creek Mine Ride and Mean Streak. Usually they don't hit those two water rides unless it's really hot, and/or sunny.

Isn't funny, people stack up for Water Rides even if it's only if the sun is out... It doesn't even have to be hot.

Patrick K, Cedar Point has three major water rides:

- Snake River Falls: Cedar Point version of shoot-the-chutes. Basically boats of 12 people go up a lift, and go down a drop it get people soaking wet. You get completely soaked!

- White Water Landings: A water ride in which riders board a log and travel the ride in the log. The ride lasts 3 minutes, and has a 45 foot drop. It almost never has a line and when it does it moves very quickly. You barely get wet, and if you do it will be a few drops.

- Thunder Canyon: Riders board a 12 person circular raft that floats under waterfalls. You will get completely soaked!

Don't worry about riding in the cooler weather, Cedar Point sells plastic rain coats to help you stay dry.

Generally speaking, Cedar Point is pretty much dead during May(except for a few days back in 2000). I would say, lines would be on the shorter side. If you are planning on staying over night, stay at Cedar Point owned resorts. Not only are the hotels are the closest to the park( most of them are on site), but as a hotel guest you will be allowed in 30 mins early to ride both Millennium Force and Wicked Twister.

May is the time to go, perfect temperature, and shorter lines, personally I won't hold out to ride water rides but even on a cool May day you will be able to ride at least one water ride(White Water Landings) and the other two if you wish to buy or bring a raincoat.

Unless you are a big water park fan and like to spend the whole day wet, I don't think you'll be missing anything.   You can go to a local water park if you feel the urge.

As stated above, the park has 3 rides which should satisfy your water urge and keep you cool or cold, depending on the time of year.

I recommend trying Snake River Falls, and Thunder Canyon later in the evening, when the lines are very minimal.

When I went there this summer I bought  pass to both the waterpark and the park itself and I found myself barely using the waterpark pass.(I think I was in there a total of 2 hours out of both days I was there)

I'll give you some good advice that worked very well for me. Go on a weekday in early June, just before the grade schools let out for summer break. Generally it's warm, and the lines are short! IMO, the best time to go. This in mind, you shouldn't miss out on any of the rides, including the water rides. Even if it is unseasonably cool, all the other lines will be short. A win-win situation for all!

Just to let you know, I worked on Snake River Falls in 00' and there is not a seat on the boat that wont soak you.  Thunder Canyon is pratically the same, excepting usually one person stays dry (its a conspiracy i say :))... If its cold out, you had BETTER get yourself a rainsuite.  Or you could stop by Magnum and I might let you borrow one :) - Bring an extra set of clothes with you just in case, and make sure to leave your shoes in a locker because they'll get soaked, and you cant leave them on the platform.

Even with the plastic rain ponchos CP sells, you will still get a soaked bum on Thunder Canyon unless you are the lucky person who does NOT get hit by a waterfall.

As for the waterpark itself, that is a separate charge.  Since I'm a combo season passholder, I visit the waterpark during the height of summer when lines for the coasters get way too long for my liking.  I'll spend a few hours in the waterpark just relaxing, then hit the coasters again after dinner when the lines start to thin out a bit.

If you've been on flumes, giant flumes and river rides, don't bother.

Interestingly enough, Snake River Falls is the only adult ride at Cedar Point I've never been on. No reason, just never had the right day for it.

Does anyone agree that cedar point could really use some new water slides for soak city (ala probowl or master blaster?)  As for the others, they're pretty good.

I thought the water park at CP really sucked.  There are at least three larger wave pools in Wisconsin Dells alone than at Soak City.  The slides were all short and not very thrilling.  The lazy rivers were lame too.

Anyways, the water rides inside the park are like any other park you have been too.  Don't bother unless you want to up your flume ride count!

Cheers,

I tend to avoid the water rides at any park.  If I want to get wet, I'll go to a water park.  Otherwise I don't like to get wet while wearing my regular clothes.

Soak City at CP is pretty cool.  This summer my buddy and I did the two-day two-park thing.  We did Soak City during the morning and afternoon while it was hot, and then did the rides in CP in the late afternoon and evening.  It worked out very well for us.

I guess I'll be the oddball here and say of the three majors the Arrow Hydroflume (White Water Landing) is the most deserving of a ride...there aren't a lot of these around the area (I think Hershey has the only other one that I've heard of locally..) and they're pretty nifty. Instead of riding in logs you do the ride in a canoe and the end has a little rampy section at the bottom of the big drop which lifts the nose of the boat out of the water as it goes through the final straight section/pool of water. Not very wet but unique and worth it if the lines are as short as they usually are.

Snake River Falls is pretty extreme as well but I wouldn't do it unless you want to get *very* wet, I did the boat once in it's opening season and that's been enough for me :-)
