CP Sunday July 25th: Worst...trip...ever.

My husband and I had been planning our yearly trip to Cedar Point for his birthday, and it was honestly all we could think of for weeks. Between deaths in the family, my dog being put down, and a slew of other angstariffic things happening (meh ^_^ been a long month), we needed to get away, and what better place to go have some fun than CP? Last year when we went, Dragster was two days past the fated cable-break that had it inoperable for a good chunk of the summer. So when the cable snapped again a few weeks ago, we were decidedly upset. Then, we got the news; it was RUNNING! So thinking that maybe our prayers had been answered, we went to Sandusky to make a second try on a two day ride-n-slide. This is how things went:

Sunday, DAY 1

It was overcast, and the threat of rain seemed to be growing since we had arrived. Now mind you, we had planned two days at the park, so Sunday we weren't as concerned with getting on everything.

Raptor: The que moved faster than the last few times, and we got on in about 30 minutes. The ride was smooth, and fast as expected, but I think I had more fun laughing at the girl next to me while she tried to keep on her flip flops. ^_^

Mean Streak: Yeah, I know, I'm in a minority. But I love this big stupid monster. There was virtually no wait, so we high tailed it over and got a spot right in back. Nice little whip over the top of the hill, and great view. It seemed to be running better this year, for some reason. Hn...maybe my ride on the Eagle a few weeks ago has me delusional...

Witches Wheel: I'm lame. I love these things. They make me laugh, so we hit it. =)

Gemini: Well we'd hoped to get on but after someone tossed their cookies in the station and they shut down to clean it up, it started to rain. And of course, they won't run it in the rain from what I was told, nor will they run Dragster. So I chatted it up with the op sitting in the chair and then headed for Magnum.

Magnum: DEFINATELY ran smoother this year than I remember. And JEEZ did I get some insane airtime in that last tunnel! Awesome ride...although I don't reccommend it in the rain. OW!

After that we took off and headed out for dinner. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS UGLY!!! The Red Lobster in Sandusky is officially on my @*$%list. I wanted Outback, but the birthday boy wanted seafood, so that's where we went. Six hours later I was hit with a case of food poisoning so strong that we had to cut our trip short and head home to Chicago a full two days early. So Day 2? yeah, never happened. I'm beginning to think someone upstairs doesn't want me on dragster. -_-; *** Edited 8/1/2004 9:37:00 AM UTC by Kenmei***

Bummer. Maybe things will go better next time?

So, actually, every inside CP was great. The title of your post seems to insinuate that CP was a disaster. Sorry about you getting sick and all, but CP gets a lot of negative publicity, when most of the time, people really enjoy the place but always seem like they have to say something negative. How can one go to Cedar Point and have a bad time, unless they are looking for a bad time?
Wow, I clicked on this topic looking for some serious ranting about CP. (Hey even a fanboy will look out for sharp criticism right?) Turns out this wasn't the case. I've never had food poisoning but I have been told it is a miserable experience. I hope your day 2 of the ride and slide goes as well as day one did. (sans illness of course) I know where you're coming from as far as the Witches Wheel goes. I'm a sucker for those things and can re-ride the living daylights out of them. It's funny how everybody that goes to a park is impressed with something different isn't it?

I cannot eat at Red Lobster. I'm alergic to something they cook with there. I will sneeze up a storm and the whites of my eyes swell up and turn yellow. Bad news. I can eat seafood anywhere else, so it's not the fish, it's definately something in the restaurant. I guess good seafood is difficult to find in the midwest. I'm right on the Pacific ocean, so good fresh fish is easy to come by.

Hope you are feeling better.

Pass da' sizzrup, bro!

Yeah, go to Maine for Lobster....We were talking to our server in Maine last year on our trip, and they said the Lobster and other Seafood from the Ocean is terrible, because its shipped via semi to destinations and the water its stored in is really bad and stuff...

Kyle Says: Diamondback was a lot of fun! Made his first time at Kings Island worth it all!

I came here expecting something like ohio coaster fan. But was suprised. Hope you get on Dragster soon and I hope you feel better from poisoning. Was dragster running before the rain?
That sucks that you haven't had the chance to ride Dragster within two trips. Both trips I've take (2003 and just got back from one) had been very lucky getting plenty of rides including Dragster (4 this past trip).

I, too, was expecting some hatefulness towards Cedar Point but it wasn't. I've never eaten at a Red Lobster so I can't really say anything. Well, you can use your pass for another day but it doesn't seem like you'll be going back again. If ya do, try the last week in August, always prime for short lines.

I've been extremely lucky with dragster, riding it both of the two trips I've had this year and last year.

Superman at SFNE is another story.

What's wrong with liking an Enterprise? They're classics now, and still a lot of fun. Now if you had said that you thought the Pirate Ship was fun, then I'd understand:)
Congratulations! You're member #2 of the CoastaRRhea Club!

Here's my tale, in case you missed it...

Sorry about the food poisoning. That really sucks. I love the Witches Wheel also and Chaos. I cant get enough of them. I remember riding the Witches Wheel at Geauga Lake when I was a little kid 4 or 5 times in a row and could hardly walk after the last ride.

Did you complain to Red Lobster and tell them how it ruined your trip. They may pay for a second trip to make it up to you. It's worth a shot.

Sorry you didn't get on TTD again. I have had good luck this year with 3 out of my 4 trips getting at least 2 laps in on TTD each time. TTD was up and down all day on my fouth trip and I only got in one lap and waited a long time for it. :(

Hopefully your next trip will be better. :)

I worked at Red Lobster for 2 years, in Rochester, NY. First, no way in hell they'll pay for a return trip to CP. They're waaaay too cheap. Second, if you got symptoms in 6 hours, it wasn't food poisoning. Something may not have agreed with you that you ate but food poisoning takes a minimum of 18 hours to show up... Just my $.02...

But then again, what do I know?

Spoken like a true Fresh Flounder Fanboy.
It doesn't have to poison you to give you the trots, ya know.

Just please don't quote Red Lobster's 94% satisfaction rate...

It's a good thing I don't like seafood eh?

Sorry to hear about the food poisoning. :-( I have had that a few times in the past and it is..........HORRIBLE!

Maybe you and your hubby can make it back to CP soon? Coastermania?

Not to worry, your Dragstergasm(s) will arrive soon. :-)

Kenmei gets an A in troll titles 101.

I got to the point around 7:00pm on a Wednesday in August last year and rode Raptor, Blue Streak, Wicked Twister, Disaster Transport and Magnum before 9:00pm. I then got in line for TTD and even with numerous stopages exited my ride at 11:15pm.

Troll title? Trips you get sick on tend to suck.
Just wondering, how bad are the crowds usually at CP on fridays. I am going up either Thursday or Friday next week. *** Edited 8/5/2004 5:36:38 PM UTC by Coaster Geek***

Coaster Geek, no one can answer that question accurately because it depends on a lot of things, weather included. Generally speaking, it's high summer, kids are out of school, and it's likely to be pretty busy.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

The crowds will be very, very bad. Thursday twelve busloads are coming from the ADHD/ODD Schoolkid Society and Friday there's a Half-Off for Angry People special.

You're screwed.
