CP P&D themed Xcelerator

John has done many great things but I don't think he gets the credit (if you want to call it that) for Disaster Transport. I know Jeff can tell you what company did it but I don't recall.

ITEC was the company that did the original work on Disaster Transport. I think they still exist... I could swear I saw them at IAAPA the last couple of years.

Where can I find the Snake River Falls sketches?

I'd like to see those also. I rember seeing something where Snake River Falls was actually themed like a mountain. You couldn't really see much of the steel supports. I think there was even a house half way down the mountain.

A mountain? I wonder if it looked anything like this.

Take a ride...

It wasn't as elaborate as the one pictured above but that is the general idea. It actually looks like that ride has some pre-drop themed sections.

In hindsight, I don't think it was too bad that they didn't go with the mountain effect. I like looking through the structure at other areas of the park.

I didnt say john was resposible, but I didnt make the diffrence either. Anybody out there have or ever see early 90's CP press kits becuse I think that where I saw the early pictures of Snake River and some sweet interior shots of DT??
Do you want to address Rob and John's comments that Xcelerator's theming wasn't all that great Jeff? Or are you only looking for chances to deliver smartass lines? CP could have planned theming after they planned the ride. It's possible. I'm just making conversation. If SFWOA or SFGAm built TRTR last year or something similar, I would have asked the same question. I don't think it would make sense if I wondered if they did this because BGW added the Ireland section.

And of course they should have had Bill do the theming! :)

I think the chains look around to see what's working, and NOT working, elsewhere...didn't we hear a LOT about Rhino Rally, and how there *would* be imitators...don't see any? Me neither...

Theming is not something that's going to be easy to *tease out* of the figures for attendance and per cap in-park spending, but I get paid to *tease out* the information from the data.

My conjecture is that theming *does* work....won't help your attendance right off, but my *guess* is that it WILL help your in-park spending, and probably even your return visits...in order to do any SERIOUS analysis, I'd need some data besides that which is readily available...and I don't think they want my nose in their books unless they're paying me to do so....

I like to deliver those lines, because you're so easily worked up by it.

How shall I respond to Rob and John when I've not been to Knott's? I don't know what additional theme they expected, but hey, to each his own. The midway and shop looks nice in the pictures, that would certainly be good enough for me.

Tomb Raider is a dark ride. Dark rides are supposed to have theme. Coasters rarely have themes, and when they do, they're often limited to the station and queue. There are obvious exceptions, so you need not make a list.

And CP doesn't take a dump without planning three years in advance for it. Come to think of it, they don't even do things in response to competition (whatever you might define that as). They do things because they make sense in the context of their own growth, not what people down the street are doing. Besting them, in my opinion, has always been a fringe benefit of their actions.

If CP made decisions based upon what SFWoA did, I would really be concerned.

On TTD you are going to be launched to 100 seconds in the blink of an eye, rocket up 400 feet before spiraling back down to earth.

What possible way could they theme that ride to make me notice it? They could line both sides of the track with naked women and I don't think it would phase me. Well, maybe naked women would phase me, but not much else.

I asked about you responding to them since you said you were surprised that CP P&D themed Xcelerator. If it's not themed well, why are you surprised? If you were making an assumption from the pictures, that's fine with me. I know everything you mentioned on paragraph two and I guess TTD won't be one of those exceptions from the pictures I've seen.

"Come to think of it, they don't even do things in response to competition (whatever you might define that as)." The SFGAm/CP Conspiracy Theory! ;)

"I like to deliver those lines, because you're so easily worked up by it." If you're just joking around and trying to have fun, that's perfectly fine with me. If you're really trying to piss people off, I've got a problem with that.

I finally get to revisit my favorite park next weekend! And it's not PKI and it hasn't been my favorite for quite some time. What parks are better than perfection you ask?! ;)
